Illinois State Police spent Sunday investigating an incident shortly after midnight in which three teenagers wound up being shot while riding in a van along Interstate 57.

Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, authorities said.

Troopers said that someone riding in a dark-colored sedan fired gunshots at a van that was in the northbound lanes near 139th Street in suburban Blue Island. The incident was believed to have occurred at 12:02 a.m.

Three people in the van – two girls and a boy, all 17 years old – were taken to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island to be treated. Troopers said the condition of all three was stabilized by Sunday morning.

The three were among 13 people, including a 42-year-old man who was driving, in the van at the time of the incident. None of the other 10 were injured, according to authorities. Troopers had no suspects, or motive, for the incident Sunday. They could not say what kind of group was riding in the van when it was fired upon.
