The first championships of the winter preps season took place this weekend at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton, where the most elite swimmers for the state’s biggest schools convened for the CHSAA Class 5A state finals. Locally, it was a successful one as Boulder’s Hazel Huilman won the 100-yard butterfly.
