


BALTIMORE >> Jacob deGrom held Baltimore hitless until Colton Cowser’s leadoff single in the eighth inning, leading the Texas Rangers over the Orioles 7-0 on Wednesday night.
The right-hander, who turned 37 on June 19, retired his first 18 batters before walking Jackson Holliday on a high and outside full count slider.
DeGrom (8-2) won his fourth straight decision, striking out seven and walking two. A two-time Cy Young Award winner and four-time All-Star, he started 20 of 24 hitters with strikes and threw 59 of 89 pitches for strikes, averaging 98.4 mph with his fastball.
DeGrom has four complete games in 234 starts, pitching a one-hitter for the New York Mets against Philadelphia on July 17, 2016, when pitcher Zach Elfin hit a third-inning single.
Jacob Webb and Cole Winn each got three straight outs as Baltimore was held to one hit for the third time this season and shut out for the eighth time. The Orioles have lost four of their last five.
Josh Jung had three RBIs with an run-scoring single in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth off Brandon Young (0-2), helping Texas win its fourth straight road series.
Brewers 4, Pirates 2 >> Making his third major league start, Jacob Misiorowski threw five shutout innings and Milwaukee earned a victory against Pittsburgh and Paul Skenes.
Misiorowski (3-0) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out eight and threw 74 pitches and lowered his ERA to 1.13 for the Brewers.
Skenes, also 23 and the reigning NL Rookie of the Year and a starter in the 2024 All-Star Game, allowed all four runs in the second inning.
A’s 3, Tigers 0 >> Jacob Lopez pitched seven innings and Nick Kurtz hit a three-run homer to help the A’s beat Detroit.
Lopez (2-4) gave up three hits and a walk, striking out six to improve to 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in his last four starts.
Padres 1, Nationals 0 >> Nick Pivetta tossed seven brilliant innings, including matching his season high with 10 strikeouts, and San Diego beat Washington to take two of three in the series.
Pivetta (8-2) allowed just three baserunners, all on singles, and none reached scoring position. Pivetta picked off Daylen Lile after he hit a leadoff single in the third.
White Sox 7, Diamondbacks 3 >> Lenyn Sosa went deep twice for his first career multi-homer game and finished with a career-high four RBIs to lead Chicago past Arizona.
Andrew Benintendi added a solo shot and rookie catcher Kyle Teel had three hits with an RBI and two runs scored to help last-place Chicago avoid a sweep.
Angels 5, Red Sox 2 >> Yusei Kikuchi struck out a season-high 12 in seven innings, Jo Adell and Travis d’Arnaud hit solo homers and RBI singles, and Los Angeles beat Boston to complete a three-game sweep.
Kikuchi (3-6) allowed up two hits, walked one and threw 31 pitches in a shaky first inning when the Red Sox took advantage of shortstop Scott Kingery’s fielding error and scored two unearned runs on Trevor Story’s two-out, single with the bases loaded.
Rays 3, Royals 0 >> Drew Rasmussen tossed five innings of two-hit ball, Tampa Bay scored three times in the second on an array of singles and bunts, and the Rays held on the rest of the way to beat Kansas City.
Rasmussen (7-5) struck out five and walked two before turning it over to the Tampa Bay bullpen on a hot, humid night. Three relievers combined to allow one hit and one walk before Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth for his 14th save.
Yankees 7, Reds 1 >> Max Fried became this season’s first 10-game winner, Jasson Domínguez and Trent Grisham had four hits apiece and New York defeated Cincinnati to avoid being swept in the three-game interleague series.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for the Yankees (46-34), who remained one game in front of Tampa Bay in the AL East.
Guardians 5, Blue Jays 4 (10 inn.) >> José Ramírez hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning and Cleveland beat Toronto in the second start of the season for the Blue Jays’ Max Scherzer.
Ramírez, who singled off Scherzer to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead in the first, hit a line drive to left field off Mason Fluharty (3-2) with the bases loaded.
Cubs 8, Cardinals 0 >> Ian Happ hit a leadoff home run and drove in three, Matthew Boyd gave up three hits in six scoreless innings and Chicago beat St. Louis.
Reese McGuire and Kyle Tucker also homered for the Cubs, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Mets 7, Braves 3 >> Juan Soto homered twice and New York finally got some production from the bottom of the lineup, beating Atlanta for its first victory over its NL East rivals in six meetings this season.
No. 8 batter Ronny Mauricio also went deep and finished with three hits as New York won for only the second time in 12 games.
Twins 2, Mariners 0 >> Joe Ryan won for the seventh time in eight decisions, Kody Clemens hit his ninth homer and Willi Castro drove in the go-ahead run as Minnesota beat Seattle to stop a five-game losing streak.
Ryan (8-3) allowed three hits in six innings, struck out eight and walked none to help Minnesota end a six-game home skid, its longest at Target Field since an eight-game slide from April 27 to May 20, 2016.
Astros 2, Phillies 0 >> Victor Caratini homered, Isaac Paredes drove in a run and Houston shut out Philadelphia for a second straight game.
Houston starter Colton Gordon (3-1) allowed four singles and struck out four in five innings. Josh Hader struck out one in the ninth for his 21st save.
