Are you ready for more snow, Twin Cities?
A winter weather advisory begins at 1 p.m. Thursday for a swath of Minnesota, from the southwest to the northeast, including the Twin Cities and northwest Wisconsin. The Minnesota Arrowhead and far northwest Wisconsin will be under a winter storm warning.
Rain changing to snow is expected by Thursday afternoon, with total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches in the Twin Cities. Locally higher amounts are also possible by Friday morning. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph could cause blizzard conditions in rural areas of southern Minnesota.
Plan on slippery road conditions as temperatures drop. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
The Twin Cities are likely to move up a notch in the list of top 10 snowiest seasons in our record-keeping history.
The next record to beat is the seventh snowiest season, which brought 81.3 inches in 1961-62.
You’ll also want to bundle up for the St. Patrick’s Day parade, which starts at noon on Friday in downtown St. Paul.
“It will be pretty brisk,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Ahasic. “The temperatures will be in the teens — mid to upper teens — and the wind will be blowing.”
