Goalie Emely Chacon made three saves in the penalty kick shootout as the San Rafael High girls soccer team advanced to the first section semifinal in program history.

Sixth-seeded San Rafael (14-8-0) secured a 3-2 victory in the shootout following a 1-1 tie through regulation and both overtimes on the road against No. 3 El Cerrito (13-6-2) in the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs, who are the last MCAL girls team left standing in NCS, hit the road to face No. 2 Saint Mary’s of Albany (14-4-1) at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

San Rafael trailed El Cerrito by a goal in the late stages of Saturday’s quarterfinal but scored in the final two minutes of regulation. Jocelyn Romero found the back of the net following an assist by Jaela Brown.

• No. 5 Tam saw its season come to an end following a 3-0 road loss to No. 4 Amador Valley in the D-I playoffs on Saturday night. The Red-tailed Hawks (14-5-6) are set to graduate 10 seniors from a program that has won consecutive regular-season MCAL titles. Tam’s recent accolades include winning the NCS D-II title last season and winning the MCAL postseason title this season. The Red-tailed Hawks also became the first Marin soccer program to win a D-I playoff game when it defeated No. 12 Northgate 2-1 on Wednesday.

Boys soccer

Branson saw its season come to an end in the NCS D-IV quarterfinals, losing 2-1 in overtime against No. 2 Roseland University Prep at Elsie Allen High on Saturday night.

The No. 7 Bulls (8-9-4) got a goal from Drew Holden, assisted by Johan Sher.

Prep wrestling

Redwood High senior Alexander Berkowitz (159) placed fourth at the North Coast Section boys wrestling championship in Union City on Saturday as he went 5-2.

Boys basketball

NJ Gray scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead The Branson School into the NCS D-III semifinals following a 60-52 win against Livermore at College of Marin on Friday night.

The top-seeded Bulls move on to host No. 5 San Rafael in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at COM. The D-III final is guaranteed to be hosted by a Marin team as No. 2 San Domenico and No. 6 Berkeley will meet in the other semifinal.

Heath French added 15 points and four rebounds for Branson. Chase Robertson had a team-high six assists and played strong defense throughout the game.

Girls basketball

Top-seeded Encinal broke out in the second quarter and held off No. 9 Archie Williams, 54-39, in Saturday’s NCS D-IV quarterfinals. The Peregrine Falcons (16-12) played the Jets to a 12-12 stalemate in the first quarter, but trailed 30-18 at the break. Parker Conrad had a strong night for the Falcons with a team-high eight points. Lila Peterson and Reese Patton chipped in six points each.

College baseball

College of Marin put together a nine-run sixth inning to overturn an early hole and post an 18-8 victory against Skyline on Saturday. The Mariners (7-7-1) had six run-scoring hits in the inning, taking a 6-1 deficit and turning it into a 10-6 advantage.

Dante Caiati had three hits while Gilbert Roth, Adrian Ruiz, and Kisho Li Kircher all had two. Former Redwood High standout Danil Wells hit a three-run triple in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring.
