Park those vehicles, because people-powered rides will once again take over streets all over the city with the return of CicLAvia.
“This event is really important because it removes the cars and creates park space in L.A., and L.A. needs more park space where people can play, hang out and really experience life,” said Tafarai Bayne, chief strategist for CicLAvia.
Since 2010, the event has closed stretches of streets throughout the city to motorized traffic and given them over to alternative forms of transportation that include bicycles, scooters, skateboards, walking and any other form of getting around as long as it’s powered by people.
This year the season includes eight rides, and it kicks off Sunday with a new route in the West Adams and University Park areas.
“It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in L.A. and it’s really diverse with lots of great small businesses along the way. We’re really exited to show people this community,” he said.
The route will take participants for nearly 5 miles along Jefferson Boulevard between La Brea and Vermont avenues, where they can check out historic buildings likes Victorian mansions and craftsman bungalows. The next event takes place April 6 and it’s dubbed “Koreatown meets Hollywood.” The route is laid out through Hollywood, Melrose and finally Koreatown.
“There are so many small businesses here and so many restaurants. It’s just really dense culturally, and we’re really excited that we’re able to make the event happen here and have people see the neighborhood,” Bayne said.
The detailed maps for the first two events are set, while exact routes for the rest of the CicLAvia rides will be released closer to the event dates.
For those considering getting out of their cars and seeing the city up close at a slower pace, here are the dates and neighborhoods for the 2025 CicLAvia events.
