Glendora football coach Brandon Rohrer is a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers. And he has his very own Deebo Samuel on his team in Tim Johnson.
“I watch him on Sundays, Saturdays, even YouTube videos,” Johnson said. “Anything just to get even more like him.”
Johnson caught two touchdown passes and rushed for another score in Glendora’s 30-7 win over Crespi on Friday night. It’s the second time in two games that the Tartans have spoiled an opponent’s homecoming night after beating Ayala the week prior.
“And next week is our homecoming, so we’re ready,” Johnson said.
Glendora’s defense made a statement at the beginning and the end of the game. Anthony Fiorenza intercepted Crespi quarterback Masyn Harvey on the third play of the game and returned it for a touchdown. At game’s end, Brandon Coronado grabbed an interception on the final play.
Nazir McGlothen had an interception late in the third quarter, as well.
“Our defense is tough as nails,” Rohrer said. “And they’ve been playing well all year. The offense is starting to get going, which is good. Get the defense some rest.”
The Tartans gained a 21-7 advantage by halftime.

EL RANCHO 27, SOUTH HILLS 21 >> A late fourth-quarter touchdown and an interception with just over a minute left in the game propelled El Rancho to a nonleague victory over host South Hills.
With the score tied at 21-21 and 4:06 remaining, Dons senior running back Anthony Orihuela scored on a 4-yard run, but the extra-point attempt hit the crossbar to give the Huskies a chance to win.
South Hills (2-3), which will begin Hacienda League play next week at Diamond Bar (0-5), drove the ball to the Dons’ 45, but a pass intended for senior wide receiver Danny Resendiz fell incomplete.
“Coming off that bye week and after the big win in the Kings of Cameron game was great, but can’t be feeling like that,” said Resendiz, who led all receivers with 76 yards on five receptions and had a 14-yard touchdown run. “We came in here expecting to win and we shouldn’t face adversity every time and we paid the consequences and lost.”

TORRANCE 28, RIO HONDO PREP 21 >> Rio Hondo Prep’s Noah Penunuri rushed for a 164 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as the Kares fell to Torrance for their first loss of the season.
In a physical matchup that saw a couple of lead changes, Torrance got a fourth-down stop to hold on for the victory.
Down by a touchdown with 3:15 left in the game, the Kares had a chance to tie the game, but weren’t able to convert on fourth-and-4 as a double pass was intercepted by Vaughn Reinert to seal it for the Tartars (5-0).
The Kares (5-1) couldn’t convert on late-down situations and went 2 of 5 on fourth downs.

Before halftime, Parker had all four of his touchdowns, one on the last play of the half where he ran 81 yards to put the Mustangs up 42-0.
“I feel great. I need to do it more often. Be more consistent and just keep going every game,” said Parker.
