BREGMAN ON IL

Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman was placed on the 10-day injured list with what manager Alex Cora called a “significant” right quad strain, suffered in Friday night’s game.

It’s a similar injury to his left quad strain in 2021 that cost him 58 games.

Signed as a free agent to a $120 million, three-year deal during the offseason, Bregman is hitting .299 with 11 homers and 35 RBIs.

To take Bregman’s spot on the roster, the Red Sox promoted top infield prospect Marcelo Mayer from Triple-A Worcester.
