Joshua Jefferson had 19 points, Dishon Jackson added 10 points and 15 rebounds, and No. 12 Iowa State leaned on its big men to beat Cincinnati 76-56 in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday.

Tamin Lipsey scored 16 before leaving late with an apparent groin injury and Milan Momcilovic had 13 for the No. 5 seed Cyclones (24-8), who will play fourth-seeded BYU in the quarterfinals in a rematch of last week’s double-overtime thriller.

Iowa State guard Keshon Gilbert returned from a muscle strain that had kept him out of three of the past five games, including a win over Kansas State to end the regular season. He had three points in 11 first-half minutes but did not play after halftime.

His availability, along with Lipsey’s status, loom important as the Cyclones chase another Big 12 title.

Jizzle James led the No. 13 seed Bearcats (18-15) with 17 points, but he missed his final six shots, which helped allow Iowa State finish the game on an 11-0 run.

Josh Reed added 10 points and Day Day Thomas finished with nine.

The Cyclones overcame 17 turnovers by dominating the glass, outrebounding the Bearcats 41-23. That led to a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint, where Cincinnati’s 7-foot Aziz Bandaogo and 6-foot-8 Dillon Mitchell combined for just four points.

iowa 77, ohio state 70 >> Brock Harding scored 15 points that included a clutch 3-pointer to help 15th-seeded Iowa pull away from No. 10 seed Ohio State for victory in its Big Ten Tournament opener.

Iowa (17-15) will move on to face fifth-seeded Wisconsin (23-8) in the second round on Thursday.

Bruce Thornton scored 24 points and had nine assists to lead Ohio State (17-15).

Southern california 97, Rutgers 89, 2OT >> Desmond Claude scored 28 points, including 10 in the overtime periods, and USC defeated Rutgers in double overtime to advance to the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

USC, the No. 14 seed, plays sixth-seeded Purdue in the second round on Thursday.

Rashaun Agee had 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Trojans (16-16). Ace Bailey had 17 points for the 11th-seeded Scarlet Knights (15-17).

arkansas 72, South Carolina 68 >> Trevon Brazile had 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, Johnell Davis scored six key points in the final 40 seconds and No. 9 seed Arkansas held off No. 16 seed South Carolina to begin the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Arkansas (20-12) will play a second-round game against No. 8 seed Ole Miss on Thursday. The then-13th ranked Rebels won the only regular-season meeting 73-66 on Jan. 8.

Murray-Boyles led South Carolina (12-20) with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

texas 79, vanderbilt 72 >> Tramon Mark and Tre Johnson scored 19 points each and 13th-seeded Texas defeated No. 12-seed Vanderbilt in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

Texas will play No. 5 seed Texas A&M in the second round on Thursday.

Jordan Pope scored 14 points and was 5-for-5 on free throws for Texas (18-14).

Jason Edwards scored 20 points for Vanderbilt (20-12).

mississippi state 91, Louisiana state 62 >> Josh Hubbard scored 26 points, and No. 10 seed Mississippi State thumped 15th-seeded LSU in the first round of the SEC Tournament.

Mississippi State (21-11) will move on to face seventh-seeded Missouri (21-10) in the second round on Thursday night.

Jordan Sears made three 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead LSU (14-18).

colorado 67, west virginia 70 >> Elijah Malone scored 14 points, helping No. 16 seed Colorado beat No. 8 seed West Virginia in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.

The Buffaloes (14-19) now get a shot at second-ranked Houston — the top seed in the tournament — in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

WVU (19-13) was led by Javon Small’s 23 points.

baylor 70, Kansas State 56 >> VJ Edgecombe had 19 points and 10 rebounds as seventh-seeded Baylor rolled to victory over No. 10 seed Kansas State in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.

The Bears (19-13) advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with ninth-ranked and No. 2 seed Texas Tech on Thursday night.
