It’s been a big summer of golf for Glenn Przybylski, highlighted by his first appearance in the U.S. Senior Open in June.

The 51-year-old Frankfort resident, though, has no problem getting hyped up for local tournaments like the Naperville Men’s City Championship.

“These things are always big for me,” he said. “When I play in these tournaments, the nerves and everything are there just like they’ve always been. It’s always a great feeling to win. It’s not easy.”

Przybylski became a three-time champion of the Naperville tourney on Sunday, shooting a 2-under 70 on Sunday at Springbrook Golf Course to finish the two-day event at 7-under 137. That was just one shot off his tournament record and four strokes better than runner-up Patrick Coyle.

Przybylski, who also won the tourney in 2013 and 2015, missed the 2016 event with an injury and finished sixth last year.

“It’s really nice to get this trophy again,” he said. “(Coyle) was pushing me and I tried not to get caught up on him because I knew there were guys in other groups who could put up big scores. I didn’t play conservative, I kept looking for birdies.”

After qualifying events, Przybylski was the first alternate for the U.S. Senior Open in Colorado Springs and made the field when Steve Stricker withdrew.

He finished 21-over and missed the cut but gained valuable experience.

“Getting to play that event opened up the eyes a lot,” he said. “I learned some things and I’ve been playing really well this summer. I’m definitely happy with where my game’s at, especially at my age.”

Coyle was the only other golfer at par or better Sunday, shooting a 72 to finish at 3-under 141.

The 36-year-old from Plainfield improved 16 spots from his 18th-place finish in last year’s tournament.

“It was a great couple days for me,” he said. “Of course, I would’ve liked to have done better, but I can’t complain. This course was tougher than Naperbrook, but the key was just not making any big mistakes. I didn’t have any blowups.”

Coyle enjoyed playing with Przybylski in the final threesome, along with Naperville resident Brian Sayers.

“Glenn wasn’t giving us any openings,” Coyle said. “He didn’t make any mistakes. He’s tough to beat.”

Nick Tenuta shot a 73 to finish third at 1-under 143. He was followed by Tyler Kelly (147), Adam Rutan (148), Greg Seelinger (148), Tom Ferguson (149) and Cory Renchin (149).

Tenuta, a Mount Prospect native and a sophomore on the golf team at Regis University in Denver, was a newcomer to the event and its courses.

“I’d never played either course before, so I was kind of just winging it,” he said. “(Sunday) was just a bad day. This course was tight, especially with the wind, so I had a tough time off the tee.

“I made some putts, and that kept me in it. I can’t complain. It was fun.”
