Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter, Americana expert, terrific storyteller, and snappy dresser John McCutcheon makes his annual wintertime stop in Sonoma on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Normally, McCutcheon’s sojourn to Sonoma has him playing the Sebastiani Theatre on a Monday night but according to his schedule, which is sans his traditional Fremont show, has him playing a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee.
McCutcheon has been pleasing local audiences for over 20 years.
As the story goes, way back when Roger Rhoten was in charge of every aspect of the theater, the late Larry Murphy told him about this extremely talented fellow named John McCutcheon. Rhoten booked him and the musician’s performance wowed the audience.
He now makes a much-anticipated, and well-attended, annual stop in Sonoma.
During this show, McCutcheon will perform selections from the new album he recorded with folk legend Tom Paxton.
He is also featured on a compilation album called, “Long Journey Home,” which features notable artists, such as Molly Tuttle and Old Crow Medicine Show.
During his shows, McCutcheon grasps his audiences gently in the palm of his hand and forms a relationship with them that is warm and inviting. His songs are timeless and are played with gorgeous musicality and the talent that places him in the folk music pantheon is very apparent.
Tickets for McCutcheon’s shows often sell out. If you’ve wanted to see him live, do yourself a favor and catch this McCutcheon matinee.
