The holiday season is upon us.

Many people across the country, including in Long Beach, will celebrate Thanksgiving with their friends and family on Thursday, Nov. 28 — which means it’ll be tough to get any city business done at the end of the week.

Some Long Beach facilities and services, in fact, will be closed on Thursday and Friday, so city staffers can also spend time with their loved ones.

Commercial services at the Civic Center — including cashiering/payment processing, utility customer service, billing and collections, and parking citations — will be closed on both Thursday and Friday. The city is encouraging the public to take advantage of the online resources available on its website.

Parking meters and violations will be enforced on both days unless the meter states “Exempt on Holidays.” Towing operations and vehicle storage facilities will be closed.

There will be no scheduled street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Thursday or Friday; street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Dec. 2. Trash and recycling pickup, however, will continue as scheduled.

Long Beach public libraries and services will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and will resume normal operations on Saturday.

Here is what will be open during regular business hours on Thursday and Friday:

All city parks and trails (excluding El Dorado Nature Center).

El Dorado Regional Park.

Long Beach Airport.

The main police station’s front desk.

Gas Services Dispatch (562-570-2140) is open 24/7 for emergency calls.

Water/Sewer Dispatch (562-570-2390) is open 24/7 for emergency calls.

Here is what will be open Friday, but closed on Thanksgiving Day:

El Dorado Nature Center (regularly closed Mondays).

Marina offices (Alamitos Bay Marina, Shoreline Marina) will have special hours, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
