Construction products exec joins DMC Global board

DMC Global Inc. (Nasdaq: BOOM), a Broomfield-based firm that provides products and services for the energy, construction, industrial-processing and transportation markets, recently added Jay Doubman to its board of directors.

Doubman is the CEO of ICP Group, a manufacturer of specialty coatings, adhesives and sealants serving the construction industry.

“We are pleased to welcome Jay to DMC’s board of directors,” DMC CEO James O’Leary said in a prepared statement. “Jay’s extensive operational expertise, strategic insight, and proven ability to lead complex, global businesses make him a valuable addition to our board. His experience in building and industrial products aligns well with DMC’s diversified industrial portfolio and growth objectives.”

O’Leary was named DMC’s president and CEO this month, making permanent a role that he’s held on an interim basis since Nov. 29, 2024.

His appointment comes after a period of musical chairs for the CEO position. He took on the interim role after the abrupt retirement of former CEO Michael Kuta. Kuta was appointed CEO in August 2023, months after taking on an interim co-CEO role after the departure of longtime CEO Kevin Longe in January 2023.

Video streamer Gaia elevates ex-Sony producer to CEO

Gaia Inc. (Nasdaq: GAIA) has elevated its president, making Kiersten Medvedich the streaming video provider’s first woman CEO.

Medvedich, who has held several leadership roles with Gaia since joining the company in 2016, replaces James Colquhoun, who took a new role as chief business development officer last week, Gaia disclosed in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Prior to joining Gaia, Medvedich, according to her LinkedIn profile, was a line producer at Sony Pictures Television.

“Kiersten’s vast experience in television production and business operations have been vital to our mission and I am proud that she will serve as our first female CEO,” Gaia founder and executive chairman Jirka Rysavy said in a prepared statement. “Gaia is joining a global trend as women are redefining leadership positions all over the world, and considering 70% of our audience is female, it is perfectly aligned for Kiersten to lead Gaia into the future.”

In May, the conscious-media company reported first-quarter revenue of $23.8 million, compared with $21.3 million in the same period last year 2024. Total members increased 3% year-over-year to 867,000.

Gaia in February closed an underwritten common stock offering, raising $7 million in net proceeds to build out the company’s AI capabilities.

KGNU gets state grant for Boulder facilities upgrade

Boulder Community Broadcast Association Inc., which operates the KGNU community radio station, has been awarded a $850,000 grant from the Colorado Creative Industries division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade to help pay for upgrades at its Boulder facility.

“This KGNU site will feature a media training room, expanded production studios available at low or no cost for nonprofits, artists and students; a community cafe and cultural space; and a performance space accommodating 60-90 people,” OEDIT said in a news release. “These spaces will be accessible to nonprofits, artists, and cultural organizations who are otherwise unable to access affordable spaces in the downtown area. Digital upgrades will improve the station’s emergency alert capabilities.”

KGNU was one of 10 organizations statewide to receive a grant from OEDIT’s Community Revitalization Tax Credit program.

“Colorado continues to lead the way by supporting the creative industries in our state. We know that arts and culture do more than improve our quality of life. The arts help our thriving economy, contributing nearly $20 billion per year and supporting over 120,000 jobs across the state,” Gov. Jared Polis said in the release.

Renovation work began last fall at 1720 14th St., a 10,000-square-foot office building that will soon become KGNU’s studio and headquarters space.

The 47-year-old station, through holding company Boulder Community Broadcast Association LLC, bought the 14th Street building from 1720 Building LLC in April 2023 for $3.3 million, Boulder County real estate records show.
