Three local baseball talents were honored for their performances on the diamond this season during all-California Collegiate Athletic Association voting.
Cal State Monterey Bay infielder Javier Felix, a Santa Cruz High alum, and San Francisco State University right-handed pitcher David Eichhorn, an Aptos alum, were named to the CCAA first team. Moreover, Felix, who was previously rostered at San Diego State in 2020 and Cal State Northridge in 2023, was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year.
CSUMB right-handed pitcher Aidan Lee, a Monte Vista Christian alum, was a honorable mention selection.
Felix (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) and Eichhorn (6-2, 175), both seniors, and Lee (6-5, 240), a junior, are MLB Draft eligible.
Felix batted .335 (60 for 179) with 31 extra-base hits for the conference champion Otters (33-16, 26-14). He smacked a CCAA-leading 20 doubles, ranked ninth in the conference with 10 home runs and eighth with 43 RBI. The Watsonville native also scored 37 runs, registered 113 total bases, and posted a 1.028 OPS.
Eichhorn posted 6-1 record with a 3.71 ERA over 64 2/3 innings for the Gators (30-19, 25-15), who finished the regular season tied for second place with Cal State Dominguez Hills (29-20, 25-15). He gave up 67 hits and 27 earned runs while walking 11 batters and striking out 50. He threw a complete-game shutout against Dominguez Hills on March 9, and earned CCAA Pitcher of the Week and NBWCA Pitcher of the Week honors.
Lee was 4-2 with a 4.23 ERA over 44 2/3 innings. He gave up 44 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 50 batters and walking 20.
CSUMB’s KW Quilici was named Player of the Year, Dominguez Hills’ Justin Abercrombie was named Pitcher of the Year, and Cal State L.A.’s Ismael Quintero was named Freshman of the Year. SFSU’s Tony Schifano was chosen Coach of the Year by his peers.
CSUMB and SFSU are among the six teams that qualified for the CCAA Tournament, which runs Wednesday through Saturday at Reeder Field in Los Angeles.
