Kam Jones scored 32 points to lead No. 5 Marquette to an 88-74 victory over No. 11 Wisconsin on Saturday.

Coming off their first loss of the season earlier this week at Iowa State, the Golden Eagles (9-1) also got double-digit efforts from David Joplin, Chase Ross and Stevie Mitchell, who combined for 37 points, while shooting 50% (31 for 62) from the floor.

The Badgers (8-2) dropped their second straight despite 22 points from Max Klesmit and 17 from John Blackwell.

Jones made back-to-back buckets with 15:05 to play, turning a 47-all game into a four-point lead that the Golden Eagles would never relinquish.

St. Thomas 88, Montana 81 >> Kendall Blue and Nolan Minessale had 22 points each in St. Thomas’ victory over Montana.

Miles Barnstable had 17 points for the Tommies (7-4).

Houston 79, Butler 51 >> L.J. Cryer scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, Emanuel Sharp added 16 points and No. 17 Houston used a big second half to rout Butler.

Terrance Arceneaux had 14 points off the bench for Houston, which won its 26th straight at home.

Pittsburgh 64, Virginia Tech 59 >> Jaland Lowe scored 19 points to lead No. 18 Pittsburgh to a victory over Virginia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Lowe connected on just 6 of 16 from the floor, but made all six of his free-throw attempts, including four in the final 25 seconds. He scored 15 of the Panthers’ final 21 points.

North Carolina 68, Georgia Tech 65 >> Seth Trimble scored 19 points and No. 20 North Carolina held off upset-minded Georgia Tech for a victory in the ACC opener for both teams.

Trimble was 5 for 6 from the field and 8 for 9 on free throws for the Tar Heels. RJ Davis added 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Oklahoma 94, Alcorn State 78 >> Jalen Moore scored 20 points to lead No. 21 Oklahoma past winless Alcorn State.

Freshman guards Jeremiah Fears and Dayton Forsythe each had 14 points and seven assists for the Sooners, who finished with five players in double figures.

Mississippi 86, Lindenwood 53 >> Sean Pedulla scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers, as No. 23 Mississippi used a dominant second half to defeat Lindenwood.

Mikeal Brown-Jones scored 14 points and started a decisive 18-4 second-half burst with consecutive layups as Ole Miss improved to 5-0 at home. Dre Davis and Davon Barnes added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Rebels.

Big Ten men

Ohio State 80, Rutgers 66 >> Devin Royal scored 16 of his career-high 22 points in the second half, Bruce Thornton also had 22 points and Ohio State defeated Rutgers.

Dylan Harper led the Scarlet Knights with 18 points.

Michigan State 89, Nebraska 52 >> Jaden Akins scored 18 points and Jaxon Kohler finished a rebound shy of tying a career high with 12 and Michigan State throttled Nebraska.

Reserve Andrew Morgan scored 14 points and Brice Williams 11 in Nebraska’s conference opener.

Michigan 85, Iowa 83 >> Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf had double-doubles and Roddy Gayle Jr. scored with 4.6 seconds remaining to give Michigan an victory over Iowa for its seventh straight win.

Gayle drove to the hoop and was credited with a basket on a close goaltending call to give Michigan the two-point margin.

Southern California 85, Washington 61 >> Desmond Claude scored 20 points to lead four in double figures and Southern California rolled to a victory over Washington to end a three-game skid.

USC shot 70% (19 of 27) in the first half for a 26-point lead, 51-25, at the break. Washington pulled within 22 points early in the second but didn’t get closer.

Women’s Top 25

Southern California 66, Oregon 53 >> JuJu Watkins scored 21 points to lead No. 6 Southern California to a win over Oregon in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Watkins was 6 for 15 from the field, including 3 of 9 on 3-pointers, in 28 minutes before fouling out.

Maryland 78, Purdue 69 >> Saylor Poffenbargar had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Bri McDaniel scored 16 points off the bench to lead No. 7 Maryland to a victory over Purdue.

Kaylene Smikle scored 13 and Shyanne Sellers added 12 for Maryland (10-0). Christina Dalce had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Tennessee 78, Iowa 68 >> Talaysia Cooper scored 19 of her 23 points in the second half to help Tennessee beat No. 17 Iowa 78-68 on Saturday night in the inaugural Women’s Champions Classic.

Her jumper with 3:04 left in the fourth gave the Lady Vols (7-0) a 68-67 lead and sparked a 12-1 run to close the game away.
