A life defined by generosity and service. Myron T. Swize, Ed.D., age 91, passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.
His life was a remarkable tribute to service, happiness, and generosity. Defined by his quiet strength and unwavering commitment to others, he lived a long, wonder-filled life dedicated to serving others and to his loving family and friends.
Myron’s greatest joy was his family. He shared years of devoted partnership with his beloved wife, Lydia M. Swize, Ed.D., and was the loving father of two children, Michael J. Swize, Ed.D. and Lisa R. Swize, MD. His greatest happiness, however, came from his three cherished grandchildren, Gabriella A. Swize, Emrik S. Brown, and Mathis S. Brown. He was a proud and supportive grandfather, often seen watching his granddaughter’s dance performances and cheering on his grandsons at their swim meets. His legacy is etched not only in his professional achievements but in the countless personal lives he quietly supported and empowered. The sound of his whistling and singing was a constant, joyous soundtrack to his ninety-one years, reflecting his deep capacity for happiness and laughter.
Born on August 13, 1934 in Hobson, Texas, Myron embodied the values of service, hard work and perseverance throughout his life.
He entered the Seminary, was ordained in 1959, earned his Masters Degree in Religious Studies, and then later earned his Doctorate in Psychology. These milestones signaled his lifelong pursuit of knowledge and dedication to education.
Alongside his wife Lydia, he dedicated his decades-long career in K-12 public education to advocating for the students and families who needed it most. Together, they specialized in Special Education, choosing to focus their collective expertise on empowering underserved communities and ensuring every student had the resources and support necessary to thrive. Myron worked for the Colorado Department of Education for nearly 25 years, and he made many lifelong friends while working there.
Beyond his professional calling, Myron was driven by a profound spirit of giving that transcended obligation and became his way of life. He and his wife personally sponsored and mentored countless friends and relatives, ensuring they had the financial and emotional support to achieve their academic and life goals.
Myron and Lydia shared a passion for sports and travel, attending the Olympics in China, Australia, British Columbia, London, as well as Atlanta and Los Angeles. Later in life, they were loyal season ticket holders to the University of Colorado, Boulder, Women’s Basketball team, enjoying many years watching them play.
He approached every challenge, whether professional or personal, with a quiet, unyielding spirit of perseverance, overcoming obstacles without ever complaining or seeking recognition. He was a testament to unshakeable strength and integrity, while maintaining a positive outlook and his signature gentle soul and beautiful sense of humor through all of life’s seasons.
Myron is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Swize; his son, Michael Swize; his daughter, Lisa Swize (husband Jerrod Brown); grandchildren Gabriella Swize, Emrik Brown, and Mathis Brown; his sister Darlene Moczygemba (Norman); and brothers James Swize (Patricia), and Emil Swize, Jr. (Liz); along with numerous and much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
