SAN MATEO >> A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision in San Mateo on Saturday, and police are asking the public to help identify the driver involved.

The victim was Mark Kremer, a 56-year-old San Mateo resident.

Police said the collision occurred on Saturday around 9 p.m. on the 1400 block of Fashion Island Boulevard, near Norfolk Street. Authorities said Kremer was hit by an unknown car and died from his injuries at the scene.

Police are looking for any witnesses or video footage that may have captured the collision. They are asking for people who live, work or visited the area to review any camera footage they might taken between Norfolk Street and Chess Drive, focusing specifically on the area of 1400 Fashion Island Blvd. and Norfolk Street between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Authorities also encouraged the driver to turn themselves in.

“Leaving the scene of an accident is not an easy thing to carry and we understand that it is likely weighing on you,” the police said in their press release. “The stress of the unknown can be a heavy burden to bear, but we urge you to do the right thing and come forward.”
