Lake Monster Brewing Company has closed.

The brewery, founded in 2013, said that the time is right to move on.

“The craft beer industry in Minnesota is undergoing a difficult period of evolution and adaptation,” said Matt Lange, co-founder of Lake Monster Brewing. “Even though Lake Monster remains a profitable business, we think the time is right to bring in fresh perspectives and energy to the space.”

That fresh perspective is coming in the form of another brewery: Barrel Theory Beer Company is exiting its Lowertown storefront and moving into the much bigger Vandalia Tower location (550 Vandalia St., #160, St. Paul).

In a post on its website, Barrel Theory owners said the move was “bittersweet and wildly exciting.”

The Barrel Theory website states: “We’ve outgrown our original space. Moving to Vandalia Tower allows us to scale up our entire operation. In the new space, our brewing capacity will increase exponentially, which means more beer flowing through the taproom handles and more 4-packs hitting local liquor store shelves.”

The Vandalia Tower space also offers a few perks the Lowertown taproom did not have: A parking lot and a large patio.

Barrel Theory’s Lowertown space will remain open through September. The team expects to open in Vandalia Tower sometime in October.
