2026 California gubernatorial election

Re “Katie Porter joins already packed race for governor” (March 16):

I like Katie Porter; I like all the Democratic candidates who have held office. Whichever one of them makes it to the general election has my vote provided their opponent in November is a Republican, as your editorial predicts.

To that important end I expect and urge every prominent Democratic candidate to follow Sen. Adam Schiff’s lead and restrict their primary campaigning to opposing the leading Republican candidate, Chad Bianco, rather than saying anything negative about their fellow Democrats.

I will urge my many progressive friends not to support any Democrat who says anything negative about his or her fellow Democrats. The last thing we need is two Democrats in the general election drawing badly needed dollars and volunteers away from the important task of flipping currently held Republican congressional districts.

Political activist Mahmoud Khalil

Re “Deportation for disfavored speech is unacceptable” (March 13):

The newspaper’s accelerating hysteria regarding the newly reelected Trump administration is laughable on its face.

As columnist Patrick Eddington well knows, there are limits to what constitutes “free speech,” especially for foreign nationals privileged enough to be allowed to attend American universities.”Political activist” Mahmoud Khalil went far beyond these limits.

Advocating the destruction of Israel, the overthrow of the U.S. government, as well as threatening and intimidating Jewish students and interfering with all students’ ability to attend classes, is unacceptable, and the vast majority of Americans support Khalil’s deportation.

Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority

Re “Board to vote on homeless funding shift” (March 16):

Why should we believe the L.A. County supervisors are serious about accountability in homeless services? How many years has this waste been going on?

What we need here in L.A. County, and in the entire state for that matter, is our own DOGE. Maybe then the millions of taxpayer dollars would be put to good use.
