The 49ers’ final game of the 2024-25 season will kick off at a familiar time.
Their road matchup with the Arizona Cardinals is set to begin at 1:25 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, their ninth afternoon kick of the season. The game will air on Fox, KTVU Channel 2 in the Bay Area.
The NFL unveiled its schedule for Week 18 on Sunday night after the Commanders beat the Falcons on Sunday Night Football, clinching a playoff spot. Two games — all between AFC North teams — will be played on Saturday, and the remaining 14 games will be Sunday.
The 49ers and Cardinals won’t be playing with those sort of stakes as both teams were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention last week. Arizona won the first meeting between the teams this season, upsetting the Niners 24-23 in an early-October comeback, San Francisco’s second blown lead to a divisional opponent in 15 days.
The Niners last played the Cardinals in a season finale in January 2023, when they beat Arizona 38-13 at home. They last closed a season in Arizona in 2020, when they relocated to State Farm Stadium for their final home games due to Santa Clara County COVID restrictions. That was a 26-23 loss to Seattle in a fourth-quarter collapse with C.J. Beathard at quarterback.
INACTIVE LIST >> The 49ers have already ruled out linebacker Dre Greenlaw (calf) cornerback Charvarius Ward (personal), defensive end Robert Beal (ankle), and, guard Spencer Burford (calf).
Listed as inactive for the 49ers were Greenlaw, Ward, Beal, Burford, running back Israel Abanikanda, defensive lineman Khalil Davis and quarterback Brandon Allen.
Inactives for the Lions were running back David Montgomery, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, tackle Giovanni Manu, guard Kayode Awosika, tackle Colby Sorsdal, defensive end Jonah Williams and defensive tackle Brodric Martin.
GAME-DAY TRANSACTIONS >> Cornerback Tre Avery was claimed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans.
For a second straight game, defensive lineman Alex Barrett was elevated from the practice squad. Also called up was undrafted rookie center Drake Nugent, who last suited up for a meaningful game in Michigan’s national championship win over Washington.
Rookie linebacker Tatum Bethune was activated off injured reserve, which is where the 49ers moved left guard Aaron Banks because of a knee injury in last Sunday’s loss at Miami.
SCHEDULE OUTLOOK >> The 49ers’ 2025 opponents won’t be fully known until Sunday, with three still to be determined based on their respective division finishes, and that includes a Levi’s Stadium visit by the NFC North counterpart (Chicago) and road trips to presumably the last-place teams in the NFC East (New York) and the AFC North (Cleveland).
Non-division opponents also will include home games against Atlanta, Carolina, Jacksonville and Tennessee; away games are at New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Houston and Indianapolis.
The Los Angeles Rams (10-6) have already dethroned the 49ers as the NFC West champion.
