Jim passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. He is preceded in death by parents, Calvin and Edith Sentz; brothers, Vernon and Calvin; and infant son, Steven. Jim is survived by children, Regena Gloystein (Lou), Natalie Sentz (Don Dudley), James D. Sentz (Katie); granddaughter, Kayla Sentz; and nieces and nephews.

Jim grew up on a Pennsylvania farm during the Depression and WWII eras which instilled a strong work ethic.

Jim enlisted in the army at 17 where he served as a light artillery gun crewman and paratrooper. Jim earned a BS degree in agronomy from Penn State University and an MS and PhD in experimental statistics and plant breeding from North Carolina State University. Jim was a long time employee of the University of Minnesota where he was a research scientist and then training Director for International Agricultural Programs. Jim took several opportunities through his career to serve in the Philippines, Washington DC and throughout Africa. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he loved supporting his granddaughter in all of her projects and endeavors, enjoyed home projects, helping others, the outdoors, dog sitting, and time at the lake. Jim stayed active in his Church and local community of Circle Pines in many capacities. Jim’s faith was evidenced through his teaching, volunteer work and the many service organizations which he supported. The family would like to thank Centennial United Methodist Church for continued support and visits and the staff at Waverly Gardens who provided outstanding care these last several years. Service will be held on Tuesday, June 17th at Centennial United Methodist Church, 1524 County Road C2 W., Roseville, MN, Gathering 10:00 a.m., Service 11:00 a.m. and Luncheon to follow. Jim will be interred at Fort Snelling Cemetery.
