PARADISE >> The latest updates on the Paradise-Chico sewer project will be provided Tuesday along with a discussion by the Paradise Town Council.
Paradise Public Works Director Marc Mattox will provide a presentation on the status of the project. It will be an informational update only and the council will not need to take a vote on the item unless there is direction for staff.
According to the related staff report, funding could be an issue going forward.
“Since the previous Paradise Town Council update in September, staff has continued funding pursuits with the State Water Board Division of Financial Assistance as well as other state and federal advocacy efforts,” the staff report said. “As part of the development of the Basis of Design Report and a Construction Cost Model, staff has learned the cost of completion may exceed $400 million. Previous funding endeavors aimed to secure an additional $262 million, which have been unsuccessful to date.”
The staff report called the current project as planned “infeasible.”

The council will also consider the following items:
• A public hearing is planned for public comment on the reallocation of $200,000 of Community Development Block Grant funding related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The council will appoint representatives as well as alternatives to regional committees, boards and commissions.
The Paradise Town Council generally meets at 9 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at its chambers located at 5555 Skyway in Paradise. Meetings are free and open to the public.
