Marina
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father and patriarch, Eugenio Rivera-Munoz, at age 89.
A longtime resident of Marina, Eugenio was born in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico on January 30, 1935. He proudly served 32 years in the Army, traveling the world with his beloved wife, Dolores, and four sons, Steven, Mickey, Ron, and John. He loved re-telling stories of his life in the military, including 2 tours of Vietnam, time spent in Panama, South America, Germany, Korea, and various other posts across the U.S.
Family meant everything to PapaGeno. Over the years, he coached his sons and grandchildren and was always a stalwart and vocal figure on the sidelines. He leaves behind three sons: Steve (Toni), Ron (Stephanie), and John (Suzi). He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dolores, and his son, Mickey, whom he will rejoin in eternal rest. He will be dearly missed by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings and family in Puerto Rico.
A viewing and vigil are scheduled for August 7 at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel in Salinas from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, at 9 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Marina, with burial immediately following at 11 a.m. at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery.
We ask that any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Humane Society of the United States.
