


With the county meet and some Macomb Area Conference champions decided, we’re refreshing ourselves on who some of the best golf teams and individuals have been in the area.
The leaderboard is compiled by an average team score across all their rounds, sourced through iWanamaker. Some teams’ scores may be impacted by their JV play.
1. Anchor Bay Tars (153.1 average, 18 rounds)
The Tars’ scoring average is top-5 in the state, though rounds of 155 and 158 in the Macomb County Championship did raise their average a tick.
Jack Higgins and Lucas Faubert are both averaging 36.9, tied for 16th best in Michigan.
2. Eisenhower Eagles (158.3 average, 28 rounds)
The Eagles didn’t have their best day at the county championship (161, 162) but backed it up by winning the MAC Red championship on Thursday at Forest Akers Golf Course.Adam Morrison has played a whopping 24 rounds to a 38.9 average, though he only shot under 40 once in four rounds this past week.
3. Romeo Bulldogs (159.5 average, 19 rounds)
A tough 173 round took them out of the county title race, but they backed it up with a 157, 161 and 156 to right the ship by the end of the week.
Chase Laverell, a sophomore, has an average of 38.7 in a busy 19 rounds. He rebounded after a tough 44 in the front half of the county meet to shoot 35, 38 and 37 the rest of the week.
4. De La Salle Pilots (160.9 average, 34 rounds)
The Macomb County champions had a great day at Orchards — their average was just brought down by some JV play that same day, in which the team went over 170. Varsity alone, the Pilots proved to still be the class of the county.
Julian Sinishtaj is the best golfer in Macomb County with a 35.9 average (tied for second best in Michigan) and he proved it with a county championship win. Troy Nguyen, the county runner-up, is tied for the eighth-best average (36.6).
5. L’Anse Creuse North (162.8 average, 21 rounds)
The Crusaders brought down their average shooting 175 and 170 at Orchards on Monday in the county event.
Scott Higuchi’s 39.2 average leads the way for LCN. He shot an 83 across all 18 holes in the county title.
6. L’Anse Creuse Lancers (163.7 average, 20 rounds)
L’Anse Creuse shot 167 and 166 at Orchards on Monday.
Tyler Conklin’s average sits right at 40, and he played right at that line with a 40 and 42 at Orchards.
7. Lutheran North Mustangs (164.3 average, 19 rounds)
The Mustangs put up scores of 166 and a better 161 in the Macomb County Championships.
Noah Shea’s average of 38.3 is just outside the state’s top 100. He shot back-to-back 38s in the county meet.
8. Utica Chieftains (166.6 average, 19 rounds)
After having an excellent round of 158 at Orchards, they followed it up with a less-than-stellar 171. They did the same thing at Marysville GC on Friday, May 16 in the MAC White championship, having a 154 on one side and 165 on another.
Braeden Kurmas has been the team’s top guy all season, and he shot a strong 38/40 in the county championship.
9. Dakota Cougars (167.8 average, 39 rounds)
The Cougars had an excellent showing in the MAC White championship (155, 152) and backed it up with a solid effort at Orchards with 166 and 167.
Dominic Vanvliet’s 40.8 average in a whopping 25 rounds is a team-low. He most recently shot a respectably 40/42 in the county meet.
10. Lakeview Huskies (169.9 average, 19 rounds)
The Huskies had strung together three good rounds in a row — 160 and 159 in the Husky/Shorian Invitational then a 166 in the county meet, before dropping to 181 in the back half of the county championship.
Troy Lutomski shot a total of 85 (42/43) at Orchards but followed it with a 39 at St. Clair Shores CC on the front half.
