Alyssa Jackson buried a corner 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining, and the UC Santa Cruz women’s basketball team rallied for an 82-80 win over host La Verne on Thursday.

Jackson, a sophomore guard out of Westlake Village, finished 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc, and led the Banana Slugs with 20 points.

Jenna Gorton, a 6-foot-5 junior win/center out of San Diego, had 18 points and nine rebounds for UCSC. Ariel Anderson, a junior wing out of Novato, had 17 points and seven rebounds, and Emilie Ngo, a freshman guard out of Oak Grove High in San Jose, recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists.

Freshman guard Justine Prajitno scored 26 points to lead the Leopards (0-1).

UCSC (1-2) plays at Whittier (2-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Women’s volleyball

Ohlone 3, at Cabrillo 0 >> The Seahawks suffered a 22-25, 25-15, 25-17, 24-26, 17-15 loss to the visiting Renegades in the teams’ Coast Conference crossover match Thursday.

Hannah Issenmann had 17 kills for the Renegades (22-7).

Cabrillo (10-18, 5-5) closed the regular season in fourth place in the Coast Conference North Division.
