kings 5, devils 1

Phillip Danault had a hat trick, Kevin Fiala had a goal and two assists, and Los Angeles defeated New Jersey on Sunday.

Alex Laferriere also scored, Cam Talbot made 30 saves, and the Kings have won eight of 12 under interim coach Jim Hiller.

Nico Daws was replaced in the second period after giving up four goals on 13 shots for the Devils, who have lost five of seven. Timo Meier scored, and Akira Schmid made eight saves in relief.

canucks 2, ducks 1

Conor Garland scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Vancouver got back on track with a victory over Anaheim.

Garland snapped an eight-game goal drought when he redirected Nikita Zadorov’s pass past Lukas Dostal at 3:34 of the second period to puck the Canucks back on top. It was Garland’s first game-winner since he scored in overtime against the Arizona Coyotes last April 13.

jets 5, sabres 2

Morgan Barron scored the tiebreaking goal on a partial breakaway with 6:05 remaining, and Winnipeg defeated Buffalo for its ninth victory in 11 games.

Vladislav Namestnikov and Sean Monahan sealed the win with empty-net goals over the final 81 seconds, and the Jets rallied from a third-period deficit for the second consecutive night. Winnipeg was coming off a 5-3 win at Carolina in which the Jets scored all five goals in the final period.

This time, four third-period goals were enough for Winnipeg to improve to 4-13-1 when trailing after two.

coyotes 5, capitals 2

Potential trade candidate Jason Zucker scored, Dylan Guenther had a goal and two assists and Arizona dealt Washington a significant defeat in the playoff race.

The Capitals experienced a noticeable letdown from an important victory Friday night against Metropolitan Division-rival Philadelphia. They fell behind 2-0, gave up a goal 43 seconds after cutting that deficit in half, had two veterans penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and lost to an opponent that had just one win in the past 51/2 weeks.

After wasting a valuable opportunity against one of the NHL’s bottom five teams, Washington sits six points back of the Flyers for third place and seven behind Tampa Bay and Detroit for one of the two Eastern Conference wild-card spots.
