DU claims 3rd NCHC title with 4-1 win over Omaha
The No. 3 nationally-ranked Denver Pioneers won their third NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship on Saturday night with a 4-1 victory over No. 11-ranked Omaha Mavericks at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Omaha opened with a goal in the first period, but McKade Webster scored twice for the Pioneers in the second, and Miko Matikka and Rieger Lorenz each added a goal in the third.
It was Denver’s 18th conference championship, the first 15 coming in the WCHA.
The bracket for the NCAA men’s hockey tournament will be announced at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.
Longtime Orioles owner Peter Angelos dies at 94
BALTIMORE>> Peter Angelos, owner of a Baltimore Orioles team that endured long losing stretches and shrewd proprietor of a law firm that won high-profile cases against industry titans, died Saturday. He was 94.
Angelos, who brought the team with a group of investors in 1993, had been ill for several years. His family announced his death in a statement thanking caregivers “who brought comfort to him in his final years.”
Angelos’ death comes as his son, John, is in the process of selling the Orioles to a group headed by Carlyle Group Inc. co-founder David Rubenstein.

SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, Austria>> In a surprising finale of the women’s World Cup season, Cornelia Huetter won the downhill race to clinch her first-ever title and deny Lara Gut-Behrami her fourth.Having already won the overall, giant slalom and super-G titles over the past week at the World Cup finals, Gut-Behrami was expected to become the fourth female skier to win four classifications in one season, after Lindsey Vonn, Tina Maze and Mikaela Shiffrin.
