Andrew, 94, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 9, 2024 surrounded by family.
Andrew worked for the Riverside Unified School District for 28 years and retired as an Assistant Superintendent of the Maintenance Department.
He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball during his younger years and led his team to the Southern California Fastpitch Men’s Championship in 1962 by a one hitter and shutout. He was inducted into the Riverside Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Inland Empire Latino Sports Hall of Fame for his softball prowess.
Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Prudencia and is survived by his sister Rita Adame, brothers Wilfred Huerta and Daniel Huerta and his eight children Andrew Jr. (Vera), Cynthia Correa (Gilbert), Rebecca Diaz, Frances Diaz (Christine), Adrian Diaz (Frances), Robert Diaz (Guadalupe), Roberta Diaz, and Bernadette Almeida (Ron). He has 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life service will be held on January 3, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Acheson and Graham Mortuary in Riverside.
A reception at the Elks Lodge, 6166 Brockton Avenue, Riverside will immediately follow at 12pm.
A private ceremony of interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery at a later date.
