New Year’s Eve Safety Zone set for downtown

The Santa Cruz Police Department will enact a Safety Enhancement Zone designation in the downtown corridor, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday and ending at 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Safety Enhancement Zone enforces a “triple fine” levied for certain municipal code violations, such as possessing alcoholic beverages in public and other behaviors deemed unsafe or illegal. Police will be actively present in the downtown corridor, enforcing laws to minimize problems and ensure a safe evening for the community.
