Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa revealed at the NFL scouting combine Tuesday in Indianapolis what NFL teams eagerly awaited: He should be cleared to resume all football activities March 9 and will hold his pro day workout April 9 — exactly two weeks before the NFL draft.
It’s been a grueling process ever since he injured his hip Nov. 15. Two days later, Tagovailoa had season-ending surgery.
Tagovailoa has been on the radar of NFL scouts since replacing Jalen Hurts in January 2018 and rallying Alabama to a victory over Georgia in the national championship game.
The NFL’s video review system for pass interference calls could be scrapped after one season. An offseason survey by the competition committee, which recommends rules adjustments, shows strong opposition to the system installed last year. Several owners, as well as coaches, GMs and players, complained about inconsistencies in the calls. Rarely were calls on the field overturned when challenged. ... Texans coach Bill O’Brien said he’s handing over playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Tim Kelly next season. O’Brien was given the additional title of GM last month.
College football: Ohio State will give coach Ryan Day a three-year contract extension through 2026 and a raise after leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and College Football Playoff appearance in his first season. Day, 40, who made a base salary of $4.5 million plus bonuses in 2019, will be paid $6 million next season, $6.5 million in 2021 and $7.6 million in 2022. His salary for the next four seasons will be decided later.
