The Sleepy Hollow Sea Lions got big performances from a number of swimmers — including triple winners Julia Hyer and Zoe Singleton — to repeat as Marin Swim League champions at Miwok Aquatic Center in Novato on Saturday.
The title was the fourth in a row for Sleepy Hollow, which has won every Marin Swim League championship since the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the 2020 season and limited the 2021 season.
The Sea Lions amassed 2,542.5 points, followed by the Terra Linda Orcas in second (1,645.5), Tidalwaves in third (1,297), Strawberry Seals in fourth (1,139.5), and Marinwood Waterdevils in fifth (996.5).
Hyer won the 50-yard back, 50 butterfly, and 100 IM in the Girls 9-10 competition for Sleepy Hollow, while Singleton claimed the 50 free, 50 fly, and 100 IM in the Girls 13-14 division.
Plenty of other Sleepy Hollow swimmers stood out on Saturday, with Frankie Parker and Elle Feightmeir earning 54 and 50 points, respectively, in the Girls 8 and under division. Lucius Holt scored 50 points in the Boys 9-10 competition. Hailey Bennett led all Girls 11-12 swimmers with 57 points and Maeve Kastner tied for second with 53 points.
Other Sea Lions to finish inside the top three in their respective age divisions were Noel Buennagel (53, second in Boys 11-12), Kathryn Fahy (53, third in Girls 13-14), Holly Hovey (51, second in girls 15-18), and Nolan Anderson (53, third in Boys 15-18).The meet produced four other individual triple winners. Lucas Valley’s Audrey Silverman swept her events (25 free, 25 back, 25 fly) in the Girls 8 and under division. Terra Linda’s Joseph Pelleriti won the same three events in the Boys 8 and under competition.
Terra Linda’s Elliot Wallace (Boys 13-14) won the 50 free, 50 back, and 50 fly. Terra Linda’s Tessa Garvey Miller (Girls 15-18) swept the 50 back, 50 breast, and 100 IM.
Terra Linda’s Jackson Wright just missed out on winning three events but set two individual meet records plus a meet relay record on Saturday. Wright won the Boys 15-18 100 free in 46.67 seconds and the 50 fly in 22.24 seconds.
Wright was also on the record-setting Mixed 15-18 200 free relay team with Garvey Miller, Samantha Foley, and Andrew Chong, with a time of 1:33.38. Wright would have also set a meet record in the 50 breast — placing second in 27.09 — if not for Terra Linda teammate Cillian McBride, who won the event in 26.99 to set the new record.
One other meet record went down on Saturday when Terra Linda’s Ivan Zykovich won the Boys 13-14 50 breast in 28.47.
Terra Linda also got plenty of points from James Hennessy (54, Boys 8 and under), Samuel Palomino (52, Boys 9-10), Zykovich (57, Boys 13-14), and Chong (54, Boys 15-18).
The third-place Tidalwaves were led by Daniel Budzik (47, Boys 8 and under).
Fourth-place Strawberry had a number of standout swimmers, including Zachary Everett (51, Boys 9-10), Ashlyn Kraus (53, Girls 11-12), Greyson Scheumann (50, Girls 11-12), Michael Heaven (47, Boys 11-12), and Lucy Yaroshenko (54, Girls 13-14).
Fifth-place Marinwood got 51 points from Lucy Walsh in the Girls 9-10 division.
The Scott Valley Sea Serpents — led by Aaron Chen’s 57 points in Boys 11-12 and Cami Lee’s 49 in Girls 15-18 — placed sixth with 734 points. The Lucas Valley Lightning, led by Silverman’s 60 points and Anna Ocat (55, Girls 9-10) were seventh with 673.5.
The Swimarin Sharks (456), Novato Riptide (369.5), and Bay Club Rolling Hills Stingrays (294) rounded out the scoring.
