On January 9, 2024, Franco Mastroianni, a much-loved family man, friend, and educator, died peacefully at the age of 81 following a period of declining health.

Born in Sambiase, Italy, Franco came to the United States at the age of 16 with his parents John and Rosa, and siblings Frances and Sal, settling in Hemet, California. Franco attended college at San Diego State University where he met his wife, Suzanne. After graduating, he returned to Hemet, where he enjoyed a long career in the Hemet Unified School District as a Spanish and French teacher and soccer coach. To the end of his days, he cherished his interactions with former students.

In their retirement years, Franco and Suzanne lived it up and traveled extensively with their “Movie Club” friends, having adventures from Alaska to Europe and enjoying life. Franco was also a hands-on grandfather and taught the kids innumerable lessons, from the joy of speeding in a Corvette with the top down to how to play bocce.

Franco is survived by his wife Suzanne, daughters Frances (Ron) and Marisa (Adam), son Alexander (Amy), and his grandchildren Miles, Lucy, Addison, Luna, and Apollo. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who has reached out with heartwarming and funny memories of Franco, as well as the staff at Hacienda Senior Living for the loving care and comfort they gave him in the last year of his life.

A service will be held January 18, 2024, 1:00pm at Hemet Valley Mortuary, 403 N. San Jacinto St., Hemet, CA.
