Grace Kim always dreamed of winning a major on the LPGA Tour. What happened Sunday in a wild final hour at the Evian Championship in France was beyond her imagination.
“I don’t know how it happened, really,” Kim said after an eagle-birdie-eagle finish to win on the second playoff hole against Jeeno Thitikul.
A final round at Evian Resort that nearly saw Lottie Woad become the first amateur to win a major in 58 years ended with Kim standing upright after her 12-foot eagle putt dropped, with her hand over her mouth, motionless as she tried to digest what had transpired.
Two shots behind on the final hole, Kim hit a 4-hybrid so perfectly that it slowed at the top of a slope behind the flag and rolled back to 2 feet for an eagle and a 4-under 67 to force a playoff with Thitikul.
Her approach to the par-5 18th in a playoff bounced off a cart path, over rocks and into the water, while Thitikul was in good position to make birdie. Tournament over? Not quite. Kim pitched over the pond and across the green and into the cup for birdie to stay alive.

“I was pretty bummed to find out that my ball was in the middle of the water. But, again, it’s not quite finished until the very end,” Kim said. “Just wanted to make sure I got it there. Yeah, just happened to have chipped it in. I don’t know if I can do it again.”
Back to the 18th for a third time — twice in the playoff — the Australian again hit 4-hybrid to 12 feet. Thitikul, who missed an 8-foot birdie putt in regulation for the win, missed the green to the left and chipped to 5 feet. She never had to putt.
Kim holed the eagle putt to capture her first major, and second LPGA title.
She is a four-time winner of Karrie Webb’s scholarship, which entails spending time with Australia’s greatest golf champion. She was at Hazeltine in 2021 when Hannah Green won the Women’s PGA. She is the second straight Aussie to win a major, following Minjee Lee.
Chris Gotterup made a short birdie putt on the par-3 12th to build a two-shot lead, a 10-foot birdie on the par-5 16th to restore a two-shot lead — and closed with a 4-under 66 to hold off Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge of England and win the Scottish Open.
The victory sends Gotterup to Royal Portrush for his British Open debut and to the Masters next year.
He finished at 15-under 265 and moves into the top 50 in the world.
American Talor Gooch won LIV Golf Andalucia for his second LIV Golf title in three visits to Valderrama and fourth overall on the Saudi-funded tour. Gooch closed with a 1-under 70 to finish at 8 under, a stroke ahead of Spanish star Jon Rahm (65). Rahm led Legion XIII to its third team title of the season.

The NFLPA’s executive committee sent a memo to players on Sunday, denying that executive director Lloyd Howell was asked to step down. Howell has come under scrutiny since ESPN reported he has maintained a part-time consulting job with the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm that holds league approval to seek minority ownership in NFL franchises.
That followed the revelation that the NFL Players Association and the league had a confidentiality agreement to keep quiet an arbitrator’s ruling about possible collusion by owners over quarterback salaries.
In January, arbitrator Christopher Droney ruled there wasn’t sufficient evidence of collusion by owners in contract negotiations with quarterbacks after the Cleveland Browns gave QB Deshaun Watson a record $230 million fully guaranteed contract. But Droney did conclude that “by a clear preponderance of the evidence,” Commissioner Roger Goodell and the league’s general counsel encouraged owners to restrict players’ guaranteed money in their contracts.
The union plans to appeal the ruling.
Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, 21, was arrested Saturday night in Florida on a charge of battery and domestic violence. According to Broward County arrest records, Judkins was jailed overnight and was awaiting his first court appearance. The charge is described in the arrest report as “touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.”
The charge is a misdemeanor. The records do not indicate if Judkins has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP was voted the NFL’s No. 1 quarterback by The Associated Press in a preseason survey, and the Chiefs’ Andy Reid was chosen as the NFL’s No. 1 coach by The Associated Press in a preseason survey.

Former Michigan football staff member Connor Stalions, whose actions triggered an NCAA investigation into sign-stealing, says he knew almost every signal opponents used in seven games over two seasons.
Stalions shared those details Saturday on social media, responding to TCU coach Sonny Dykes telling On3 that his team changed some signs in advance of its win over the Wolverines in the 2022 College Football semifinals.
“We got some favorable matchups because of that and, yeah, there was some big plays in the game,” Dykes said in the On3 report. Stalions bristled at the latest attempt to suggest Michigan won or lost games because of his sign-stealing role with the team.
“There were 7 games in my time at Michigan where I knew almost every signal the whole game: 2021 MSU, 2022 MSU, 2022 PSU, 2022 OSU, 2022 TCU, 2021 Georgia, and 2021 Wisconsin,” Stalions wrote in his post. “We lost 3 of those games because we didn’t tackle well, and Georgia was historically good. We won the four other games because we dominated the line of scrimmage & tackled well.”

Cole Palmer scored twice and fed João Pedro for a goal as Chelsea overwhelmed Paris Saint-Germain in the first half and beat the European champions 3-0 in the final of the first expanded Club World Cup in East Rutherford, N.J.
Palmer had almost identical left-footed goals from just inside the penalty area in the 22nd and 30th minutes, then sent a through pass that enabled João Pedro to chip goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 43d for his third goal in two starts with the Blues.
A 23-year-old who joined Chelsea from Manchester City two years ago, Palmer scored 18 goals this season.
PSG finished a man short after João Neves was given a red card in the 84th minute for pulling down Marc Cucurella by his hair. After a testy final few minutes in a game with six yellow cards, the teams needed to be separated as PSG coach Luis Enrique and Donnarumma pushed João Pedro near the center circle.

IndyCar driver Nolan Siegel was not cleared to race at Iowa Speedway because of a mild concussion suffered in a crash one day earlier.
Siegel, 20, crashed in the first race of Iowa’s two-day IndyCar doubleheader. His teammate, Pato O’Ward, won Saturday’s race for his first win of the season, as well as the first for McLaren this year and the first for Chevrolet.
