Born March 8, 1940 in Azusa, California, entered into eternal life on July 25, 2023. Life-long resident of the City of Azusa, married to Thomas Aguirre Avila, Jr. for 47years. Beloved wife, mother grandmother, educator, and community servant.

Graduate of Azusa High School and Citrus Junior College Alumni. Director of the American Red Cross for 20 years, Instructional Aide for Azusa Unified School District; and Receptionist at Citrus College Cosmetology Division.

First Hispanic Councilwoman/Mayor Pro-tem for the City of Azusa, also served as Azusa Parks and Recreation Commissioner and Azusa Planning Commissioner.

Founding Director of the California Route 66 Association, President of the Friends of the Azusa Library, Curator of the Azusa Historical Society, Member of the Azusa Woman’s Club, Azusa Police Department A.A.C.E.S., and the Sociedad Progresista Mexicana #6. Forty-year breast cancer survivor and volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Avila, Jr; grandchildren Jessica Leilani Avila-Mott and Elijah Avila-Mott.

Survived by daughters Deborah Avila-Mott, Suzanne Avila; son Thomas Avila III; granddaughters Serena Avila-Cortes, Seraya Avila-Mott, and Sierra Avila-Mott; and great-grandsons Leonardo Avila-Cortes and Lorenzo Avila-Cortes.
