More than two dozen athletes from Santa Cruz County took part in the Wildflower, a three-day party celebrating multi-sport, music wellness and outdoor adventure, held in Bradley over the weekend.

Three locals posted top-10 finishes in the Wildflower’s Olympic Course Triathlon. Santa Cruz’s Kyle Jordan took third out of 311 athletes in 2:14:03, Santa Cruz’s Stefano Profumo took fourth in 2:16:39, and La Selva Beach’s Tim Sheeper took seventh in 2:23:39. Other county runners included Aptos’ Geoff Drake (2:43:00; 21st), Mark Cote (2:44:51; 28th), and Caroline King took (3:10:25; 125th), and Santa Cruz’s Jenna Myers (3:23:05; 168th) and Divyansh Pal (3:53:47; 262nd).

Santa Cruz’s Luc Vantalon (5:51:42) took 90th out of 313 athletes in the Long Course triathlon. Santa Cruz’s Sarah Kletzer took 118th 6:08:18, Santa Cruz’s Brock Hrehor took 210th 6:59:29, and Aptos’ Gustavo Alvarez took 280th in 7:42:27

Santa Cruz’s Joshua Diaz (1:16:17) took fourth out of 104 racers in the Off-Road Sprint tri. Santa Cruz’s Laura Gradiska (1:28:12) took 26th. Watsonville’s Scott Berry (1:33:52) took 40th, Andrew Berry (1:34:40) was 41st, Kate Berry (1:53:21) was 71st, and Will Berry (2:07:06) was 87th.

Aptos’ David Nowlin took 28th out of 172 athletes in the On-Road Sprint tri in 1:32:09. Santa Cruz’s Karley Delorme took 63rd in 1:42:28. Soquel’s Kristi Matthews took 86th in 1:49:36. Felton’s BJ Snider took 102nd in 1:56:05.

Freedom’s Oscar Garcia took seventh in the Trail Run in 1:40:16, and Boulder Creek’s Richard Deborba was ninth in 1:45:58.

Watsonville’s Hector Jacobo (31:08) took 19th in the 5K run.

Santa Cruz’s Frederik Pferdt (54:44) took 20th in the 10K run and Joshua Pferdt (55:19) was 21st.

Santa Cruz’s Patrick McDonald 23rd in the Open Water Swim in 39:28.

Women’s swimming

State Championships >> Cabrillo College’s Kaylee Gooch, a Harbor High alumna, had a stellar showing at the 2025 3C2A State Swimming and Diving Championships, which ran Thursday through Saturday at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Gooch was seeded 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday and placed sixth in 2:28.53 to break her own school record in that event and earn All-American status again for that event.

She was seeded 10th in the 400 individual medley and placed seventh in 4:47.39 on Friday. She broke her own school record and earn All-American status.

She placed 11th in the 200 IM in 2:16.51 on Thursday.

Men’s track and field

Coast-To-Coast Championships >> UCSC won the 2024 Coast-To-Coast Conference Cross Country title in the fall, added 2025 C2C Indoor Track and Field crown to its trophy case, and, on Saturday, secured their first Triple Crown by winning the 2025 C2C Outdoor Track and Field title in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday.

Luke Holland earned C2C Track Athlete of the Year honors while Evan Hofstetter earned C2C Field Athlete of the Year honors.

The Banana Slugs earned 218 points for a 21-point victory over Salisbury.

UCSC’s Eric Anderson took first in the 800 (1:53.56) and 1,500 (3:53.50). Sotirios Kougiouris took first in the 110 hurdles (15.52).

The Banana Slugs (Shiv Mohan, Aaron Hillberg, Soujit Ing, and Hofstetter) set a program record in the 4×400 relay by finishing in 3:19.32.

Women’s track and field

Coast-To-Coast Championships >> The Banana Slugs claiming UCSC’s first Coast-To-Coast Championships team title in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday.

UCSC earned 206 points for a 15-point victory over Christopher Newport.

The Banana Slugs’ Elena Stanciu took first in the 800 (2:17.46) and 1,500 (4:42.34). UCSC also earned wins from Kenzie Seymour (3k steeplechase, 11:42.43), Caitlin Donovan (400, 58.06), and Celine Castaneda (high jump, 1.57 meters).

UCSC (Donovan, Mae Stafford, Camille Anneet, and Sara Teitelbaum) closed with a program record in the 4×400 relay (4:02.05) for second place.

SCCAL Swimming Championships >> Scotts Valley High senior Brent Kong was incorrectly credited with a league record in the 200-yard freestyle race at the SCCAL Championships in the initial results and Sentinel story.
