Scotts Valley

Our beloved Mark Brewer left us far too soon in the early hours of March 27th, at the age of 64. Born to Donna and Raymond Brewer, Mark was raised in Scotts Valley, where he remained rooted in the home of his childhood until the day before his passing.

Mark’s life was defined by his profound passion for volleyball. From his early days playing at Cabrillo College’s club team, to coaching and competing for many years, he became an integral and cherished member of the Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley volleyball communities. His dedication extended beyond the court, as he served as an official for decades, with his final game officiated just this past March 2025. Above all, Mark was a mentor and educator, imparting his love and knowledge of the game to countless players over the years.

For more than two decades, Mark devoted himself to education as a teacher’s assistant at San Lorenzo Valley High School. His commitment to supporting students remained constant until 2024, when health challenges compelled him to step away from his role.

Mark was truly a gentle giant-a man of few words, yet his deep blue eyes spoke volumes, and his warm smile could light up any room. His lifelong friendship with Jon began in kindergarten at Scotts Valley’s Vine Hill Elementary, and over the years, Mark became family to us all. He was a constant presence at every birthday and holiday, watching and participating in the raising of our three sons. Words cannot express the depth of our loss or how dearly we will miss our beloved “Uncle Mark.”
