In an up-and-down season featuring newcomers at several prominent roles, the Colorado volleyball team hoped the final homestand might lead to a little momentum as the Buffaloes look to improve during the offseason.

But it isn’t panning out that way.

After getting swept by Arizona on Thursday, the Buffs suffered a 3-1 loss against No. 9 Arizona State on Saturday afternoon, with the Sun Devils posting a 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16 win at the CU Events Center.

CU (12-16, 5-11 Big 12) fell to 0-8 this season against ranked foes and are 1-13 against ranked teams since the start of the 2023 season.

The Buffs never led in the opening set but battled into a 12-12 tie midway through the second, with the Sun Devils scoring the next four points before outscoring CU 13-6 the rest of the way.

CU managed to extend the match by claiming the third set, but the Sun Devils quickly ended the thoughts of a Buffs rally by jumping to leads of 11-1 and 15-4 in the fourth set.

After posting a hitting percentage of just .099 with 21 attack errors in three sets on Thursday against Arizona, the Buffs were more proficient against nationally-ranked ASU, hitting .216 with only 16 attack errors in four sets. Ana Burilovic led the attack with 17 kills, but the Sun Devils hit .331.

CU hosts Kansas State in the final home game of the season on Wednesday (1 p.m., ESPN+) before completing the 2024 campaign at Houston on Nov. 30.
