When it comes to balancing athletics and athletics, multiple Harbor and Santa Cruz high teams more than made the grade.

The Central Coast Section announced that both educational institutions were recipients of 2024-25 Spring Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards.

The section, a member of the California Interscholastic Federation, honors the top five programs in each sport based on each team’s collective grade-point average.

Harbor posted the top mark (3.680) for boys volleyball teams in the section.

Santa Cruz took second (3.720) among beach volleyball teams.

The Pirates’ girls track and field team (3.734) was fourth.The Cardinals’ baseball (3.500) and softball (3.580) teams were fifth.

Hall of Fame

Aptos High Sports Hall of Fame >> The Aptos High Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 gets inducted Saturday at Seascape Golf Club. Social hour begins at 4 p.m. Dinner and the program start at 5 p.m.

The 10 new members are highlighted by coaches Mark Hull (girls volleyball) and Linda Hitchcock (girls tennis), Michelle Park, a four-time All-Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League first-team golfer who won two league championships and earned two league MVP awards, Cody Gilbert, a four-time All-SCCAL first-team water polo player who also earned first-team All-CCS honors, and All-SCCAL tight end John Baker, who, after 40 years, remains the Mariners’ all-time leading receiver for a single season and career.

Other honorees include: football star Joe Garbini (1979), soccer and softball player Shelley Rains-Chavez (1988), three-sport talent Kim Fennell (1990), volleyball sensation Audra Dent (2003), and three-sport standout Andrew Ortega (2004).

High school baseball

San Lorenzo Valley 6, at Watsonville 3 >> The Cougars had three hits, drew five walks, and took advantage of seven Wildcatz errors in the teams’ nonleague game Wednesday.

Bennett Woolfolk had a hit and two RBI for the Cougars. Dominic Aguilar doubled and drove in a run. Brody Egner had a hit, two stolen bases, and scored a run, and Sean Johnson and Larrabee Mitchell also scored a run.

Rudy Valdez had two hits, including a triple, two stolen bases, and scored twice for the Wildcatz. Kaden Ortiz doubled, drove in a run, and scored a run. Mathew Silva had a hit and one RBI.

Phil Nattrass struck out eight batters over six innings and earned the win, Brody Barto pitched two innings and was tagged with the loss.

SLV (3-16, 0-10) plays Harbor (13-9, 4-6) in SCCAL play on Friday at 4 p.m.

Watsonville (9-11, 8-0) hosts Pajaro Valley (2-10, 1-7) in Pacific Coast At0hletic League Cypress Division action on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Santa Clara 7, at Harbor 1 >> The Pirates gave up five runs in the seventh inning of their nonleague loss Wednesday.

Andrew Traffas counted a double and triple among his three hits and scored twice for the Bruins (20-3, 13-1), who are ranked No. 20 in the CCS by maxpreps.com and leading the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s El Camino Division.

Winning pitcher Drew Diffenderfer gave up two hits and one walk over three scoreless innings.

Harbor (13-9, 4-6) hosts SLV (2-16, 0-10) in SCCAL action on Friday at 4 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

Aptos 16, at Hollister 2 >> Parker O’Hara had six goals and two assists in the Mariners’ PCAL Mission Division win Wednesday.

Alex Sandoval had three goals and four assists for the Mariners (11-2, 9-1). Josh Couchman and Gabriel Sandoval each scored twice, and Ryan Murphy, Spike Sorensen, and Izayah Castro each added a goal.

Aptos plays at Monterey on Friday at 4 p.m.

Soquel 10, Santa Cruz 4 >> Tanner Trowbridge scored five goals, and the Knights won their PCAL match Wednesday.

Jed Del Favero had three goals and two assists for the Knights, and Devin De La Rosa added a pair of goals.

Goalie Daniel Bjorn made 10 saves for the Knights, who host Hollister on Monday at 5 p.m.

Monte Vista Christian 17, Santa Cruz 5 >> Zachary Binder had six goals, four assists, and a 64% faceoff win rate in the Mustangs’ PCAL Mission Division win Monday.

Oliver Friesell scored five goals for the Mustangs, Nicolas Colaprete scored thrice, Everett Olmstead scored twice, and Tyler Bennett added a goal.

Goalie Garret Hawkins made 12 saves for the Mustangs (4-12, 4-6), who host Harbor on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Girls lacrosse

MVC 12, at Monterey 11 >> Junior Sophia Sheridan scored six goals and had five draw controls in the Mustangs’ PCAL Gabilan Division win Tuesday.

Senior goalie Jana Bacero Duncan made 14 saves for the Mustangs (4-10, 2-7), who play at Salinas on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
