Eighteen local high school baseball teams made the cut for the North Coast Section playoffs as brackets were unveiled Sunday afternoon, while 17 area softball teams are moving on to the postseason.
First-round games are set for Tuesday and Wednesday in both sports.
In baseball, Montgomery and Grace Christian Academy earned No. 1 seeds in Division 5 and Division 6, respectively, and will have first-round byes. Six local teams earned top-five seeds in their respective divisions. Divisions 1, 3 and 5 will play their openers Tuesday, while Divisions 2, 4 and 6 will open Wednesday.
Petaluma earned the No. 13 seed in Division 1, the highest bracket, and will play at 4 seed Berkeley in the first round.
Casa Grande is the 3 seed in Division 2 and will host 14 seed Miramonte in its opener. Also in Division 2 are 6 seed Windsor at 11 seed San Leandro and No. 10 Cardinal Newman at No. 7 Washington.
Ukiah is the 4 seed in Division 3 and will host 13 seed American in the first round. Analy is the 10 seed in the division and will host 7 seed San Marin. Vintage is the 11 seed and will play at 6 seed University and Rancho Cotate is the 12 seed and will play at 5 seed James Logan.
In Division 4, Justin-Siena was named the 3 seed and will host No. 14 Hayward, while No. 13 Santa Rosa will play at 4 seed John Swett.
Along with top-seeded Montgomery, Division 5 features four other local teams. Healdsburg is the 2 seed and will face 15 seed Kennedy-Fremont in its opener at Mendocino College. Sonoma Academy is the 5 seed and will host 12 seed St. Helena at Doyle Park in Santa Rosa, while Sonoma Valley is the 7 seed and will play at 10 seed Brave Christian.
In Division 6, Rio Lindo Adventist is the 4 seed and play 13 seed San Francisco Waldorf and St. Vincent is the 7 seed and will host 10 seed Ygnacio Valley.
Softball
No North Bay teams earned top seeds in any of the six NCS softball divisions, but five local teams earned top-five placements.
In Division 1, American Canyon will host 10 seed Granada on Tuesday.
Division 2 features four local teams. Vintage is the 7 seed and will host 11 seed Berkeley on Tuesday. Also Tuesday, No. 8 Cardinal Newman will host No. 9 Foothill and 12 seed Casa Grande will play at 5 seed Pinole Valley. Rancho Cotate is the 13 seed and will host 4 seed Redwood on Wednesday.
Maria Carrillo is the 4 seed in Division 3 and will host 13 seed Washington on Wednesday. Cloverdale, the 7 seed, will host 10 seed Freedom on Tuesday and 9 seed Petaluma will play at 8 seed Las Lomas.
In Division 4, 5 seed St. Helena will host 12 seed Analy on Tuesday, 6 seed Piner will host 11 seed Miramonte on Wednesday and 13 seed Ukiah will play at 4 seed Del Norte on Tuesday.
Montgomery is the lone local team in Division 5. The Vikings earned the 7 seed and will host No. 10 Redwood Christian on Wednesday.
In Division 6, Healdsburg, the 2 seed, and St. Vincent, the 4 seed, both received first-round byes. Playing on Wednesday are 5 seed Justin-Siena against 12 seed Brave Christian and No. 10 Credo at No. 7 St. Patrick-St. Vincent.
