



Chicago >> Dansby Swanson lined a tiebreaking two-run single in Chicago’s four-run eighth inning, and the Cubs beat the Texas Rangers 10-6 on Tuesday on another frigid night.
The Cubs blew a 6-3 lead before taking advantage of two errors in the eighth and closing out their seventh win in eight games.
They had the bases loaded when Swanson singled to right against Chris Martin (0-1). Pete Crow-Armstrong added a two-run single against Hoby Milner on a 35-degree night.
Swanson homered leading off the second against Patrick Corbin. He also hit a sacrifice fly in a three-run fifth against Jacob Webb.
Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong each had three hits and two RBIs.
Royals 2, Twins 1 >> Cole Ragans struck out 11 in six crisp innings, and Kansas City beat sloppy Minnesota.
Kansas City won for the fourth time in five games despite managing just two unearned runs and three hits.
Bobby Witt Jr. scored the go-ahead run on Vinnie Pasquantino’s soft grounder in the eighth. Witt reached when he went all the way to third on a throwing error on Griffin Jax (0-1).
Braves 7, Phillies 5 >> Sean Murphy homered and drove in four runs in his return from a rib injury, and Atlanta beat Philadelphia.
Austin Riley hit two doubles for Atlanta, including a tiebreaking shot to the wall in right-center in the seventh inning. Jarred Kelenic walked three times and scored two runs.
Riley’s second double of the night drove in Marcell Ozuna, who walked and moved to second on a wild pitch by Orion Kerkering (1-1).
Angels 4, Rays 3 >> Luis Rengifo drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning and Kenley Jansen got in and out of trouble in the bottom half for his third save as Los Angeles rallied to beat Tampa Bay.
Logan O’Hoppe got the rally started with a one-out, pinch-hit single. Kevin Newman pinch ran after O’Hoppe moved to second on a ground out and Newman scored on Rengifo’s single to center.
Nationals 8, Dodgers 2 >> James Wood homered twice and matched a career high with five RBIs, leading Washington over Los Angeles for their fourth consecutive victory and their first home series win over the Dodgers since 2014.
Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 1 >> George Springer homered through a cold and gusting wind, and Easton Lucas pitched another 5 1/3 scoreless innings to maintain a perfect 0.00 ERA and lead Toronto to a victory over Boston.
One night after going 4 for 4 with three RBIs, Springer broke a scoreless, sixth-inning tie with a 404-foot homer to the flagpole in center field. Tyler Heineman and Bo Bichette added singles in the four-run inning, when Toronto also took advantage of two walks and two errors to chase Garrett Crochet.
Cardinals 5, Pirates 3 >> Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes was knocked around by St. Louis, allowing a career-high five runs in a loss at frigid PNC Park.
Skenes (1-1), who was electric in his first two starts this season, was spotty this time around. The 22-year-old reigning National League Rookie of the Year allowed six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts as his ERA more than doubled from 1.46 to 3.44.
Victor Scott II had two hits, including a two-run triple off Skenes in the third.
Mets 10, Marlins 5 >> Pete Alonso drove in four runs, Francisco Lindor hit a leadoff homer and the Mets beat Miami.
Clay Holmes (1-1) struck out a career-high 10 in 5 1/3 innings for his first win with the Mets and second as a major league starter.
Guardians 1, White Sox 0 >> Nolan Jones drew a bases-loaded walk from Mike Clevinger in the ninth inning, and Cleveland won its home opener over Chicago.
Carlos Santana reached on an infield single off first baseman Andrew Vaughn’s glove starting the ninth for his second hit of the game.
Tigers 5, Yankees 0 >> Tarik Skubal allowed four hits over six innings, Spencer Torkelson hit the first of three homers in the fourth inning off Carlos Carrasco and Detroit extended its winning streak to five, beating New York and dealing the Yankees their first shutout loss this season.
Brewers 7, Rockies 1 >> Brice Turang, Christian Yelich and William Contreras hit seventh-inning home runs, Jackson Churio doubled and tripled, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies 7-1 on Tuesday night.
Freddy Peralta (1-1) struck out six in five solid innings for Milwaukee, which has won six of seven after starting the season with four straight losses.

Reds 2, Giants 0 >> Hunter Greene came within one out of a complete game, outlasting Logan Webb in an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel between All-Star starters, and Cincinnati beat San Francisco.
Blake Dunn hit a two-run double off reliever Erik Miller in the eighth inning, and Tony Santillan shut the door in the ninth for Cincinnati.
Padres 5, Athletics 4 >> Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run homer in the first inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. added a solo shot in the seventh and San Diego beat Athletics.
Michael King (2-0) gave up three runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, and Robert Suarez pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save. Manny Machado had two RBI doubles for San Diego.
