Jerelaine (Jeri) April Joseph passed away on March 9, 2023 after a full and joyous life. She was born in Mendota, Illinois to John Erle and Elaine Edwards on October 6, 1932. She grew up in Clarendon Hills, Illinois and graduated from Hinsdale High School.
Jeri attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where she met her husband, Gary Kyle Joseph. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega national sorority. They were married on September 5, 1953 in Hinsdale, Illinois. Gary and Jeri would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September!
Gary worked for the Dow Chemical Company and his job brought them to Midland, Michigan, Cincinnati, Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana and back to Midland. While living in Midland, Jeri was active in the hospital auxiliary, PTA, Midland Community Tennis Center (founding members) and the Memorial Presbyterian Church. She appeared on stage numerous times for the Midland Music Society. Jeri is the recipient of two Silver Ser vice Awards from the Town and Campus chapter of Northwood University's National Women's Board for her work on the executive committee, as chairperson of several annual luncheons, chairperson of the lecture series, Fun Auction Day (FAD) co-chairperson and co-chairperson of a Holiday Boutique. She was named a Northwood University Distinguished Woman in 1975. Jeri also loved working for Alden B. Dow Associates and the Associated Family Dental Center.
Gary and Jeri moved back to Colorado in 1986, fulfilling their retirement dream. They lived in Avon for two years where they enjoyed living in the mountains and skiing.
When they moved to Louisville, she stayed busy volunteering at Avista Hospital and playing tennis at the Harvest House. Jeri was a fashion consultant for a Boulder-based custom clothing store which promoted its line through fund raising fashion shows and provided special services to shut-ins. She also was employed with Stein Mart as a fashion consultant in the boutique.
Jeri was known to her grandchildren as "Mimi." She went the extra mile to spoil her children and grandchildren. We will always remember her gregarious laughter, sense of humor and kind heart.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Gary, of Lafayette, a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tammy Joseph of Erie, Colorado and a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Steve Lyth of Holt, Michigan. In addition, they have four grandchildren, Brittany (Becky Orr) Joseph of Loveland, Colorado, Chelsey (Darren Carter) Joseph of Denver, Colorado, Matthew Lyth of Holt, Michigan, Benjamin Lyth of Providence, Rhode Island and one great-grandchild, Nova Joseph-Orr of Loveland, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Jeffrey (Betsy) Edwards of Wheaton, Illinois and their children, Jeffrey (Laura) Edwards and their children Owen and Katie Edwards, Chris (Karen) Edwards and their children Lauden, Caden and Keagan Edwards, and Zoe Edwards (Brendan).
Jeri is also survived by nephews Larry (Emmary) Carlson of Redding, Connecticut and Gregg (Audrey Alenson) Carlson of Harvard, Massachusetts and their children, Samuel and Grace Carlson, and two nieces, Nancy Bobrek of -Bangor, Maine and Christine Carlson of Passadumkeag, Maine.
She was predeceased by sister-in-laws Kathleen (Wherity) Edwards and Rubydonna (Jo) Carlson and brother-in-law Bruce Carlson.
We are forever grateful for the loving employees and caregivers at the Peaks at Old Laramie Trail in Lafayette. They were all loving and caring, making Jeri's life nothing short of fantastic! Fatma was especially compassionate, attentive and loved by all of our Family!
No services are scheduled. A celebration of Jeri's life will be held at a later date.
