San Anselmo, CA

Dustin was born in Boulder, Colorado. He was born prematurely, with a birth defect that was not compatible with life, and because of it, we both nearly didn't make it. Miraculously, surgeons at Denver Children's Hospital made arepair and gave him away forward hours after his birth. We had him in our lives for nearly 45 years. He passed away after a long illness related to this condition, at his home in San Anselmo.

He grew up in Marin and attended schools in San Anselmo, Ross, Kentfield, Corte Madera and Larkspur. This was challenging for him at times but afforded him the opportunity to know many of his peers throughout the county. Later, some would call him the mayor of Marin.

He graduated from Redwood High School in 1999, later attending the California School of the Arts. In November of 2000, he enlisted in the 10th Mountain division of the army as an artillery man. His basic training was at Fort Sill, OK and then he was assigned to Ft. Drum in upstate New York. Shortly after, he was promoted to Specialist. During his time in the service, he travelled throughout New England with the Honor Guard and spent six weeks at West Point training future artillery cadets. Early in the morning of 9/12/2001, he was sitting in a transport plane waiting to go to Pakistan. Thankfully, he was not sent. When President George W. Bush and Senator Hilary Clinton later visited Fort Drum, he was one of the soldiers chosen to meet them.

Dustin had a great sense of humor. He was kind, intuitive and adventurous. He traveled numerous times to Europe and especially loved his trip to Ireland with his friends. In South America, he hiked and dove in the Galapagos, hiked in the amazon jungle, and hiked to and flew over Angel Falls. Traveled to Mexico. He dove in the Galapagos islands and numerous places in Indonesia, Roatan and Hawaii.

The greatest love of his life was his daughter, Stella, and the time he spent raising her were his best memories.

He is survived by his mother, Molly Doughty (Steve), his daughter Stella, Larry Tolbert (Pam), his aunt Marti Delgado, his Delgado family cousins, and many friends, He will be so very missed. We thank the Veteran's Administration Hospital for the beautiful care they took of him.

There will be a Memorial for family and friends at the Monte Chapel of the Hills on January 19, 2025 at 2:00pm followed by a celebration of his life at The Way Station in Fairfax at 3:30.
