




James Dahlen shot 35 and earned medalist honors to lead San Lorenzo Valley High’s golf team past Santa Cruz 204-219 on the front nine at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Thursday.
Keenan Buntz (38), Garret Dahlen (42), Luke Fontinell (43), and Tanner Brewer (46) also scored for the Cougars, who improved to 7-0 in their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title defense.
Tobin Ortiz-McLendon (37), Cliff Chestnut (40), Sam Wickens (42), Fisher Howard (49), and Gavin Eaton (51) scored for the Cardinals (4-3).
At Aptos 212, Soquel 223 >> Sophomore Nick Bjorn shot 2-over-par 37 for medalist honors on the front nine at Seascape Golf Club, and the Mariners won their SCCAL match Thursday.
Ben Nowark (42), William Bartch (42), Mason Bloom (43), and Jack Garvey (48) also scored for the Mariners (4-2).
Riley Shank (40), Mateo Adolpho (44), Malaki Mora (45), Kyle Cambrechts (46), and Peter Robbeloth (48) scored for the Knights.

Scotts Valley 210, Harbor 215 >> The Pirates’ Kaden Dunton earned medalist honors with a score of 35, but the Falcons earned the SCCAL win at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Thursday.
Brogan Beasley (39), Noah Tripp (42), Adrian Creamer (42), Zane Siechen (43) and Gavin Doherty (44) scored for the Falcons (2-5).
Nico Maridoc (42), Kyler Samples (43), Gunther Kruger (46) and Adam Stubblefield (49) also scored for the Pirates (0-7).
College baseball
Cabrillo 6, at West Valley 3 >> Nic Brusca had three hits, including a three-run home run, and the Seahawks handed the Vikings, the No. 2 ranked team in NorCal, their first loss in Coast Conference South Division play Thursday.
Nico Hilger hit a two-run double for the Seahawks (11-19, 4-7). Jayson Schmeisser tripled and scored a run, and Jacob Fiorenza and Diego Grabiel also had a hit and run scored. Kaiden Hoapili had a hit, RBI, and run scored, and Adrian Castaneda drew two walks and scored a run.
Jordan Montez had a hit a two-run triple for the Vikings (24-7, 10-1) and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Oscar Knapp scatted four hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight batters. Jake Jones gave up two runs over 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.
Cabrillo hosts West Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Boys tennis
Soquel 4, at Santa Cruz 3 >> Leo Hagedorn and Liam Stiller won in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to clinch the Knights’ team victory in SCCAL action on Thursday.
Sooquel earned singles wins from No. 1 Hudson Ward and No. 2 Benja Bellito, and the No. 1 doubles team of Nate Marcus and Toran Miller prevailed in straight sets.
Santa Cruz earned singles wins from Anders Laurberg and Sammy Lambert, and Ethan Romanowsky and Ian Burchell at No. 2 doubles.
At Aptos 7, SLV 0 >> Only three matches were played in the Mariners’ SCCAL win over the short-handed Cougars on Thursday.
George Jertberg beat Sawyer Amos 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Isaiah Ackerman and Luve Granstrom won 6-1, 7-5 over Asher Schwarzbach and August Hughes at No. 1 doubles, and Dylan Bray and Kal Bhugra edged Everett Calendar and James Collins 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Boys swimming
At Soquel 102 Harbor 62 >> Oliver Santana posted wins in the 100 butterfly in a CCS qualifying time (53.12) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.33) for the Knights in their SCCAL meet win Thursday.
Cassius Wolf (100 freestyle, 50.39), Stryder Stelk (200 free, 1:53.25), and Gabe Suarez Abraham (500 free, 5:30.90) also posted first-place finishes for the Knights.
Soquel also earned wins in the 200 free relay in a CCS qualifying time (1:34.20), and 200 medley relay (1:46.20).
Harbor’s Elias Keen-Server took first in the 50 free in a CCS qualifying time (22.41) and 100 back (1:01.71). Teammate Logan Manildi took first in the 200 individual medley (2:18.94).
Girls swimming
At Soquel 105, Harbor 53 >> Liz Penny took first in the 100 free (56.75) and 200 free (2:06.09) for the Knights’ in their SCCAL meet win Thursday.
Soquel’s Natasha Ackerstein (50 free, 26.13), Ayla Nelson (100 fly, 1:02.09), Izzie Bridi-Milligan (100 breast, 1:17.15), and Sydney Walsh (200 IM. 2:40.12) posted first-place finishes.
Soquel also earned wins in the 200 free relay in a CCS qualifying time (1:45.90), 400 free relay (3:58.66) and 200 medley relay (1:59.88).
Harbor’s Zia Jaggar took first in the 100 back (1:08.08) and 500 free (6:00.31).
College softball
At Cabrillo 9, Chabot 1; 5 inn. >> Bella Fromel had three hits, thee RBI, and a run scored in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference win on Thursday to snap a 13-game losing skid.
Charileen Pauneto had two hits, one walk, two RBI, two stolen bases, and scored twice for the Seahawks. Tehya Cruz-Abair had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run, and Kiana Perreira had a hit and scored twice. Brisea Rivera and Morgan DeVillires each had a hit and scored a run. Rivera also had one RBI.
Winning pitcher Alanna Poklong gave up three hits and four walks over five innings. She struck out one batter.
Chabot drops to 2-27, 1-8.
Cabrillo (3-26-1, 1-8) hosts Merced (4-20) in a nonconference doubleheader on Monday at 1 and 3 p.m.
High school softball
At Aptos 14, Santa Cruz 2 >> Emma Burgueno had three doubles, three RBI, and scored twice in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Thursday.
Nova Neu had two hits, three RBI, and scored twice for the Mariners (6-4, 2-2). Gwen Vaca had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run. Kailani Aguayo and Lilly Mcgee had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice. Bailey Fulton had two hits and scored three runs.
Molly Pisciotta doubled twice and had one RBI for the Cardinals (5-6, 3-1).
Aptos plays at Palma on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Santa Cruz hosts King City on Saturday at 11 a.m.
At Soquel 9, Harbor 2 >> The Knights had eighth hits and took advantage of nine errors in their SCCAL win Thursday.
Sofia Monroe had a hit, RBI, and run scored for the Pirates. Hana Pomrantz tripled and scored a run.
Harbor (1-6, 0-4) plays at Santa Cruz on April 15 at 4:30 p.m. Soquel (2-3, 1-3) plays at Aptos on April 22 at 4:30 p.m.
Pacific Grove 8, at MVC 0 >> Ava Alvarado, Kayla Fullalove-Silveira, and Gianna Johnson each had a hit in the Mustangs’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division loss Thursday.
The Mustangs also drew four walks, but were unable to generate a run.
MVC (7-8, 1-5) hosts Santa Cruz in nonleague action on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

At Watsonville 17, Pajaro Valley 2; 5 inn. >> Kaden Ortiz had three hits, including two doubles, four RBI, and scored a run in the Wildcatz’s PCAL Cypress Division win Thursday.
Ben Miller had three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored for the Wildcatz (3-9, 3-0). Mathew Silva had three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Miles Serrano-Osario doubled, had two RBI, and scored twice. Patrick Miller-Brown had two hits and scored twice.
Winning pitcher Rudy Valdez struck out 10 batters over five innings.
Watsonville hosts vs Pajaro Valley (1-6, 0-3) on Friday at 5 p.m.
At Salinas 8, St. Francis 0 >> The Sharks were held to one hit in their PCAL Gabilan Division loss on Thursday.
Gavin Rainey had two hits, three RBI, and a run scored for the Cowboys (5-7, 2-5).
St. Francis (7-4, 4-3) hosts Salinas (5-7, 2-5) on Saturday at noon.
Boys volleyball
At Aptos 3, Scotts Valley 2 >> The Mariners pulled out a 13-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 18-16 win over the short-handed Falcons in SCCAL play Thursday.
Senior outside hitter Raith Wallwork six kills, seven digs, and five aces for the Falcons. Junior middle Devin Bloom had three kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Junior setter Troy Thompson had 33 assists, five aces, three kills and two digs.
