A Rochester Hills internal medicine doctor will stand trial on charges that he sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl and recorded himself doing it.

Novi District Court Judge David Law said last week he found there was probable cause for Dr. Oumair Aejaz to stand trial on all 17 felonies he is charged with: two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, six counts of using a computer to commit a crime and three counts of capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person. He faces up to life in prison.

Aejaz’s attorney, Mariell Lehman, did not argue against sending the case to Oakland County Circuit Court. She said it was a question of fact for the jury to consider. Before the hearing started, Lehman said Aejaz did not want to hold the preliminary examination Friday, and that it was being held at the prosecution’s request.

The recordings came to light after Aejaz’s wife, Shazia Tabassum, found cameras and memory cards hidden around the family’s home, according to her previous testimony in a separate case. Videos she found on memory cards and a hard drive included footage from what she believed was the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester; videos of patients; and videos of Aejaz having “sexual relations” with other people, including a coworker, she said.

Tabassum reported Aejaz to police, and when his phone was confiscated as a part of a search warrant, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. Chad Allan testified Friday that he found videos on Aejaz’s phone that depicted the sexual assault of a minor child, appearing to be about 5 or 6 years old.

There were videos of Aejaz — who police identified in the video by a freckle on his knuckle — touching the child’s genitalia and buttocks, Allan said. There also were videos of the child using the bathroom, as well as “clip art” made from the videos of the child.

“It was clear to me that the defendant used his left hand to touch the child’s clothing and to touch the child’s genitalia and butt,” Allan said.

Prosecutors previously said the videos of the girl were recorded in 2023 and 2024.

The victim’s mother testified first Friday, but Judge David Law closed the courtroom for her testimony at the prosecution’s request.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has called the case against Aejaz “the tip of the iceberg,” believing there could be hundreds of other victims.

Aejaz has already been ordered to stand trial in the case involving Goldfish Swim School, where he is accused of secretly recording several children and at least two adults in the changing rooms.

In that case, he is facing one count of child sexually abusive activity, seven counts of computer use to commit a crime and six counts of capturing/distributing image of an unclothed person.
