A Taylor man is jailed in Oakland County for allegedly stealing nearly $1,000 worth of clothing from the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Bloomfield Township recently.
Russell Benjamin-Taylor Hamby, 38, faces charges of first-degree retail fraud and resisting/obstructing police for the alleged April 28 incident.
According to the Bloomfield Township Police Department, officers were called to the Dick’s store at 2015 S. Telegraph Rd. on April 28 where it was reported a man had fled out the back door with Nike clothing that he had stolen. A short time later, officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description outside a nearby business — carrying bags of clothing — and when he saw them he reportedly dropped the bags and ran through the parking lot.
Police chased down the man — subsequently identified as Hamby — and arrested him. The bag he was carrying had 23 pieces of Nike merchandise totalling $915, police said.
At Hamby’s arraignment in 48th District Court, bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety.
Hamby’s next court date is May 12.
