MANHATTAN BEACH — The last time the Mira Costa baseball team took a loss was back on Feb. 25.

The Mustangs swept their games in March and wrapped up April with another win Wednesday, defeating Redondo 5-3 to extend their winning streak to 21 games.

“These guys don’t want to lose, they’re resilient,” said Mira Costa coach Andy Diver, whose team improved to 23-2 overall, 11-0 in league. “We haven’t lost since February. We just ran the table on March and April in a high school baseball season. That’s pretty tough to do, 21 games in a row.”

As for the team’s ability to win game after game, Diver said: “They’ve got some fight in them, some dog in them. They know what they’re playing for. They got a little chip on their shoulder and every day, on the field, it’s another opponent, another opportunity to go out and play the game.”

Redondo (14-11, 5-6) entered the game with a seven-game winning streak.

The Sea Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on Travis Dulmage’s RBI single and Parker Leoff’s bases-loaded walk.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kellan Finn’s RBI single and Shane Huber’s RBI double gave the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.

Redondo’s Luke Sufnar tied the game at 3-3 with a RBI single in the fifth inning.

Mira Costa loaded the bases against Redondo starter Jack Green in the sixth. Cole Bernstein’s sacrifice fly made it 4-3 and Finn followed with another sacrifice fly to make it 5-3.

“I talked to the 7-8-9 guys, I got on them in the third inning after their first round of at-bats,” Diver said. “I told them their at-bats didn’t look competitive and they needed to get competitive ABs. It turns out we get a sac fly from Bernstein for the go-ahead run and an additional one (sacrifice fly) from Kellan (Finn). So we get production from the 7-8 guys at the end and Foxxy (Elijah Fox) scorched two balls out of the 9-hole.

“The top six (in the lineup) are really good. If 7-8-9 are competitive, it gets pitch counts up, then that’s team offense. That’s what we’re trying to do.”

Jack O’Connor, who followed Aiden Pinn (three innings) and Emiliano Ortiz (1 1/3 innings) on the mound, pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the win.

The series shifts to Redondo today for the final league game for both teams.

Torrance 6, West Torrance 0 (10): The Tartars (14-9, 6-5) scored six runs in the 10th inning for the Bay League win over the Warriors.
