A Romoland woman who authorities say was caught with stolen mail belonging to more than 50 people in Nuevo and Menifee was arrested this week.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received a report at 2 p.m. Tuesday that a woman was tampering with a community mailbox on Sandy Plains Drive in Nuevo. The caller said the woman fled but gave deputies her vehicle description.
Deputies stopped a car that matched the description, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
The 42-year-old driver was discovered to be “in possession of a large quantity of stolen mail,” the sheriff’s department said.
Inmate records indicate that the woman was arrested less than four hours after the initial report, at the intersection of Brown Street and Hansen Avenue.
She was being held on $250,000 bail in Banning on suspicion of vandalism, petty theft and identity theft and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4.
