Brewers: Brandon Woodruff pitched six strong innings in his first start in 651 days, Jackson Chourio homered and drove in three runs, and the Brewers beat the Marlins 3-1 on Sunday in Miami. Woodruff (1-0) allowed a third-inning single and a homer in the fifth — both to rookie Heriberto Hernandez. He struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter, throwing 53 of 70 pitches for strikes. Woodruff has a 47-26 record over eight seasons with the Brewers. The 32-year-old hadn’t made a start in the majors since Sept. 23, 2023 against the Marlins in Miami, when the Brewers won to clinch a postseason berth. Woodruff had right shoulder surgery that October and then had his return delayed this season by ankle and elbow injuries. Christian Yelich had an infield hit in the third and stole his 13th base before Chourio hit his 15th homer on a 1-1 pitch from Edward Cabrera for a 2-0 lead. Yelich has reached base in 19 straight games. Hernandez hit his third homer to cut it to 2-1. Chourio had a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Trevor Megill worked the ninth for his 20th save in 23 opportunities. Cabrera (3-3) yielded two runs in seven innings. He allowed two hits in seven innings in a 2-0 win over the Twins his last time out. The Marlins lost for just the third time in 13 games. The Brewers went 3-3 on a six-game trip.

Phillies: Zack Wheeler threw a one-hitter for his first complete game since 2021 in the Phillies’ 3-1 victory over the visiting Reds. Wheeler (9-2) — the NL’s pitcher of the month in June — allowed only a leadoff HR to Austin Hays in the fifth. The right-hander struck out 12 and didn’t walk a batter, throwing 108 pitches. Since Wheeler returned from paternity leave June 9, he has allowed only three earned runs in 40 innings. Kyle Schwarber tied it in the fifth with a two-out RBI double, and Bryson Stott gave the Phillies the lead in the eighth with a two-run HR off Tony Santillan (1-2).

Orioles: Jackson Holliday’s two-run HR gave the Orioles an early lead and Trevor Rogers ended his career-spanning victory drought against the Braves by giving up four hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings as the visitors won 2-1 to complete a three-game sweep. Rogers (2-0) struck out six and walked two. Seranthony Domínguez gave up a HR to Sean Murphy with one out in the ninth and then allowed a single to Ozzie Albies before closing it out for his second save. Rogers, who was acquired by the Orioles from the Marlins last July, had been 0-7 with a 5.57 ERA in nine career starts against the Braves, who kept OFs Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II and DH Marcell Ozuna out of the starting lineup for the 11:35 a.m. start. The Braves (39-50) have lost four straight to fall a season-low 11 games under .500.

Mets: Kodai Senga could rejoin the Mets’ rotation next weekend in the final series before the All-Star break, a little over a month after straining his right hamstring. Senga allowed four runs — three earned — and six hits in 3 2/3 innings during Saturday’s minor league injury rehab start for Double-A Binghamton at Hartford. He struck out four, walked two and threw 44 of 68 pitches for strikes. “Physically he feels fine,” manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday before the Mets concluded their three-game series against the Yankees. “So we’ll see how today, tomorrow, how they go and hopefully he’s making a start for us next time.” Senga was injured covering first base on a grounder by CJ Abrams when he made a leaping catch on Pete Alonso’s throw June 12 against the Nationals. Senga is 7-3 with a 1.47 ERA in 13 starts this season for the Mets, whose starters had a major league-best 2.78 ERA at the time of his injury. The Mets lost 14 of 17 after Senga’s injury, then won four straight with a patchwork rotation that included two openers and Justin Hagenman’s first big league start. Mendoza said Sean Manaea may start Sunday against the Royals in Kansas City. Manaea is slated to make his fifth rehab start and sixth overall appearance Tuesday. He has been sidelined since spring training with a strained oblique and had a rehab outing pushed back because of elbow discomfort. The left-hander received a cortisone shot and threw 60 pitches in three innings Wednesday for Binghamton at Hartford. The Mets have 13 pitchers on the IL.
