The Colorado volleyball team has struggled against elite competition so far this season. That continued at TCU.
The Buffaloes began a demanding Big 12 Conference trip through Texas by getting swept at No. 18 TCU on Wednesday night, with the Horned Frogs posting a 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 in the first matchup between the programs.
With the loss, CU (10-12, 3-7 Big 12) matched a season-high with its fourth consecutive defeat, a run the Buffs will be challenged to end on Friday when they visit No. 17 Baylor (6 p.m., ESPN+).
The Buffs once again struggled on the attack while also failing to slow the top hitter in the Big 12, TCU’s Melanie Parra. Parra hit .577 and finished with a match-high 16 kills, leading the Horned Frogs to a .359 hitting percentage. The Buffs finished with a .155 mark.
Colorado led 15-14 in the first set before TCU reeled off a 8-1 run to take control. TCU never trailed after posting a 7-2 run early in the second set, and the Horned Frogs sent the Buffs to their second defeat via a sweep this season by scoring nine of the final 11 points in the third set.
Lily Dwinell finished with a team-high 10 kills for the Buffs, but she also recorded seven of CU’s 13 attack errors. CU senior setter Taylor Simpson finished with 21 assists and nine digs. The Buffs fell to 0-5 this season and 1-10 since the start of 2023 against ranked foes.
