KARE-11 anchor Julie Nelson has provided another update on her condition following a June 13 boating accident that has kept her off the air in the time since. In a Facebook post, Nelson wrote that she has “been focused on healing and getting stronger,” but offered no timeline in regards to her return to the anchor desk.

Nelson and her husband, Kurt Krumenauer, were hospitalized after a one-boat pontoon accident on Balsam Lake in Wisconsin. The pair were treated for “non-life threatening injuries” according to a Facebook post from Nelson on June 18. “I will be off the air while I take some time to heal and recover,” Nelson wrote. “I’m grateful for the outpouring of love and support that’s been shown to me and my family.”

In Nelson’s latest update, which she posted Wednesday morning, she wrote: “The good news is I am making great progress and anticipate being back to work soon. The not-so-great news is the nerves in my right arm are injured and, as I am learning, nerve recovery is frustratingly slow and unpredictable. But I’m fortunate to have a phenomenal team helping me heal.

“The medical care I’ve received has been extraordinary. I feel beyond blessed to live in Minnesota with access to some of the smartest, kindest health care professionals in the world.”

Nelson, who did not respond to a message seeking further comment, once again thanked her viewers for their “kindness, encouragement, support and prayers during this challenging time. It has meant the world to me and has uplifted me more than you know. Thank you.

“Enjoy this last week of summer and I look forward to seeing you all soon!”

Nelson has remained largely silent since the accident. She provided her first update in July, writing: “I’m happy to report that I am getting better every week, but I do need a bit more time before I can fully return to work.”

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said in a recent message to the Pioneer Press that investigation into the pontoon crash continues.

Nelson, 54, has been with KARE-11 since 2003 after working at KSTP-TV, according to her bio. She earned degrees in journalism and history from Indiana University. She and her husband have two daughters.

She anchors the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts at KARE-11.
